The Ferrari F40 is one of the most iconic supercars ever built. Tyler the Creator has got one, Nick Mason from Pink Floyd owns one, Nigel Mansell got the keys to one — and now it's your turn to get hold of one of the best on the market. A pristine F40 is just about to go on sale, with shockingly low miles and a few extras that you don't see every day. This Ferrari F40 Is Very Special Mecum Some people like to drive their F40 all the time (like Tyler the Creator who was captured popping down the shops in his — look it up) and others like to use it as sparingly as possible. The F40 that is about to go on sale falls into the second category. It is a later 1991 car, a year before production ended, and has just 1,700 miles on the clock. That's the equivalent of driving one way from New York to Texas. Secondly, this is one of just 213 US-specification F40s ever built, from a total of 1,315 produced.Just to make it a little bit more special, the car has been retrofitted with the ultra-rare variable height suspension system, which was usually offered only to the European market. The car also comes with a three-piece Schedoni luggage set. A nice touch, but with this low mileage it's unlikely anyone is going to be going away for the weekend in it. F40s (Probably) Don't Get Much Better Than This Mecum If you are interested in adding one to your collection, this 1991 Ferrari F40 will be going up for auction on May 16 at Mecum's Indy 2026 sale. The car (serial number 087568), was delivered new on February 25, 1991, to Classic Ferrari, Inc., in Richardson, Texas. "Sparingly driven and meticulously maintained, it shows an odometer reading of a scant 1,773 miles at the time of writing, its Rosso Corsa exterior finish and Rosso Stoffa Vigogna interior preserved in keeping with the overall immaculate condition that earned the FCA Platinum Award at the January 2000 Cavallino Classic in Palm Beach, Florida," says Mecum. It also comes with the essential Ferrari Classiche certification and Red Book. What To Pay For A Ferrari F40 MecumThe F40 was the last car conceived and approved by Enzo Ferrari before his death in 1988, and it remains one of the purest and most desirable models to ever wear the Prancing Horse badge. Tracing its roots back to the 288 GTO, the F40 is powered by a compact, longitudinally-mounted all-alloy 2.9-liter V8 with twin Behr-intercooled IHI turbochargers, connected to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Output is 471 horsepower and 426 lb-ft of torque. Prices for the F40 are always strong, with some people like Gas Monkey Garage even reviving totaled examples, and Hagerty puts a price of $2,700,000 on good condition examples. It will be exciting to see what this very special 1,700-mile F40 fetches when it goes to auction.Sources: Hagery.com; Mecum.com
