BYD topped the list with 433,384 passenger cars sold, with 188,746 units exported. Chery remains the top exporter of China, with 196,984 units exported, however, it’s clear that BYD’s export figures are now very close to Chery’s. Traditional giants BYD maintained its position as the volume leader, selling 433,384 passenger cars in August, a 16.7% year-on-year (YoY) increase. It generated more revenue outside China than in its home market in the first half of 2026, 53% of its revenue came from sales overseas. Breaking down its portfolio, the Dynasty and Ocean series sold 375,373 units, while Fang Cheng Bao delivered 41,568 units (+155.6% YoY), Denza sold 16,001 units (+33.4% YoY), and Yangwang delivered 442 units (+9.1% YoY). BYD sales performance. SAIC reported NEV sales of 187,037 units (+44.1% YoY). Geely’s August NEV sales reached 175,877 units (+9.4% YoY). Within its domestic lineup, Zeekr hit a historic high with 36,981 deliveries (+109.8% YoY), while the Galaxy series led the volume with 119,115 units (7.6%). Geely Auto NEV sales performance. Changan’s NEV division sold 105,000 units. This included 45,885 units from the Changan Qiyuan brand (AQ series +103.1% YoY), 28,659 units from Deepal, and 8,082 units from Avatr. NEV startups Leapmotor continues to be the top-performing startup in August, delivering 103,129 units globally (+80.7% YoY). It is the only startup to break the 100,000-unit monthly barrier for two consecutive months. Leapmotor sales performance. In contrast, Huawei’s HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) experienced its first year-on-year decline, delivering 42,101 units (-5.6% YoY). Aito accounted for nearly half of this volume with approximately 20,652 units. Other notable startup performances include: Xpeng: Delivered 39,107 units (+4% YoY). The GX flagship sold 7,338 units, while the MONA series has surpassed 310,000 cumulative deliveries. Li Auto: Delivered 37,679 units (+32.1% YoY, +23.67% MoM). The company anticipates a strong September with the launch of the new MEGA and the i9. Nio: Delivered 35,836 units (+14.5% YoY). The main Nio brand contributed 21,174 units (+101.2% YoY), Onvo added 8,810 units, and the Firefly brand delivered 5,852 units (+34.7% YoY).
