This campaign aims to build up confidence among consumers after the new mandatory battery safety standard nicknamed “No fire or explosion” came into force domestically. Chery Automobile issued a statement that the full range of the company’s new energy vehicles (BEV+PHEV+EREV) equipped with Rhino batteries meets the latest national safety standard. To prove it, the company introduced the lifetime warranty for the first owner for non-commercial purposes. It covers batteries, electric motors, and control units. Chery officials highlighted that if any model sold or currently on sale suffers thermal runaway damage due to a non-human-caused faulty power battery, the company will compensate with a new vehicle of the same model in China. Currently, four brands under Chery Automobile adopt the mentioned Rhino batteries: Chery, Exeed, Jetour, and iCar (iCaur). The Chery QQ3 EV Previously, Chery launched the lifetime warranty for the entire vehicle lineup in 2023. However, the latest step deepens the battery safety commitment within the existing warranty system. It is a company’s answer to the newest GB38031-2025 mandatory battery safety standard, which came into force on July 1, 2026. The new standard is considered the strictest battery safety standard in history. It requires no fire or explosion within a 2-hour observation period after thermal runaway. Smoke should not enter the passenger compartment within five minutes of the alarm being issued. Moreover, the battery must withstand three impacts from a 30 mm steel ball with 150 J of energy without igniting or exploding. Finally, the new standard requires no ignition of explosion after 300 fast-charging cycles. Chery is actively pushing its NEV sales in China, investing in new technologies. The company targets the mass availability of solid-state batteries in 2027. At the same time, Chery develops other battery types. The Wuhu-based automaker cooperates closely with CATL and Gotion in this field.
