The BYD Atto 1, also known as the Seagull, has made its launch debut in Thailand at this year’s Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS). With pricing starting from 429,900 baht (about RM52k), the imported-from-China Atto 1 is one of the more affordable electric vehicles (EVs) sold in the country. That asking price is for the base Dynamic variant, which features a front electric motor rated at 75 PS (74 hp or 55 kW) and 135 Nm of torque. This is good for city driving-relevant 0-50 km/h time of 4.9 seconds, and drivers can switch between Eco, Normal and Sport drive modes. Powering the e-motor is BYD’s Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with an energy capacity of 30.08 kWh that is good for a range of 300 km following the NEDC standard, or around 240 km with the WLTP cycle (the WLTP figure is typically around 20% lower). The Dynamic supports AC charging at up to 6.6 kW, while DC fast charging peaks at 30 kW. Joining the Dynamic is the top-spec Premium variant which goes for 459,900 baht (RM56k) and retains the same e-motor, but sees an increased battery capacity to 38.88 kWh for a range of up to 380 km (NEDC) or 304 km (WLTP). The max AC charging power remains at 6.6 kW but DC charging is up to 40 kW. Both variants come with a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system and ride on 16-inch wheels. In terms of kit, the Atto 1 comes standard with automatic LED headlamps, LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, rain-sensing wpers, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, synthetic leather seat upholstery, a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, four speakers, NFC card key, automatic air-conditioning with PM2.5 filtration, a rear-view camera, four airbags (front and side curtains) as well as passive safety systems (ABS, traction control, VDC). Meanwhile, features specific to the Premium include tilt and telescopic steering column adjustment (tilt only for the Dynamic), a six-way powered driver’s seat, a wireless charging pad and additional front side airbags. The range-topper is also the only one with an ADAS suite that includes adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, autonomous emergency braking, front collision warning, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, auto high beam and a tyre pressure monitor. A black and grey interior is the default across the range, while the exterior colours offered are Shell White, Quantum Black, Pop Green and Velocity Blue – the Dynamic only gets the first two. The Atto 1 is positioned below the Dolphin, making it BYD’s smallest EV in Thailand at 3,925 mm long, 1,720 mm wide, 1,590 mm tall and with a wheelbase of 2,500 mm. For context, the Dolphin measures 4,290 mm long, 1,770 mm wide, 1,570 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm.
