bore stoke breakout the front brake is your ultimate survival toolAccording to elite rider coach Ken Hill, if you want to fix your issues with corner acceleration, you need to look directly at how you handle your brakes. In Episode 4 of the Bore and Stoke podcast, Hill stressed that mastering the front brake is the single most critical technical skill for both street riders and track enthusiasts. He notes that almost all acceleration issues stem from poor braking habits or an inability to use depth perception effectively. When a rider cannot properly slow the motorcycle down, they lose their entry speed, miss their apexes, and ultimately destroy their ability to drive out of the corner cleanly."Acceleration issues come from braking issues. 100% of the time that people struggle with acceleration, it's because they can't use the brakes or they're not using their depth perception very well." - Ken HillBrakes do significantly more than just slow a motorcycle down; they control weight transfer, compress the fork, alter the chassis geometry, and sharpen the bike's steering radius while entering a turn.AdvertisementAdvertisementHill recommends practicing brake application drills daily to build an intimate relationship between your fingers, the front tire, and available traction. Riders must learn to smoothly bring the brake pads up against the rotors to initiate weight transfer without shocking the front tire. From there, they must progressively build pressure as the fork compresses to maximize potential grip, and finally modulate the release of the lever as lean angle is introduced to control their entry speed precisely.Check out the Bore & Stoke episode with Ken Hill here to listen to the full interview.Become a Motorcycle.com insider.
