bore stoke breakout bill davidsons first taste of absolute freedomEvery rider remembers the exact moment the training wheels came off - or, in Bill Davidson's case, the moment his legendary father, Willie G. Davidson, slid off the back of a moving motorcycle.During his appearance on Episode 8 of the Bore and Stoke podcast, Bill took a trip down memory lane to recount his earliest riding memory at just six years old, aboard a Harley-Davidson M50.Overwhelming ControlGrowing up around the Milwaukee factory floor, motorcycles were a daily reality for Bill. But there is a big difference between riding in a sidecar at age three and holding the handlebars yourself."I think for all the riders listening, we can all remember back to that first day where you take the handlebars in your hands and you take over that control for the first time," Bill shared. "I was on a Harley-Davidson M50. My dad, Willie, was on the back and he was kind of telling me what to do. We got to a point where he said, 'Okay, I'm going to slide off the back of the bike.' And he did."A Lifelong Love AffairAt six years old, Bill didn't fully grasp the global weight of the Davidson name, but he fully understood the feeling of that moment. With his father running alongside or watching from behind, Bill kept the throttle twisted and never looked back. It was the spark that ignited a 41-year career (and counting) and a lifelong devotion to the open road.AdvertisementAdvertisementCheck out the Bore & Stoke episode with Bill Davidson here to listen to the full interview.Become a Motorcycle.com insider.
