A European EV Takes The Long-Range Crown As It Sails Past Its WLTP Electric RangeGuessing HeadlightsAndre NalinFri, September 25, 2026 at 10:00 PM UTCAdd us on GoogleImage Credit: Audi.Electric cars rarely match their official range when subjected to extreme conditions, but one Audi just went dramatically far in the opposite direction. An A6 Sportback e-tron performance traveled 1,338 kilometers on a single charge, equivalent to roughly 831 miles. That's even more impressive when you consider that Audi rates the car for up to 777 km, or 483 miles, on the WLTP cycle. The record run stretched that figure by roughly 72%.Behind the wheel was Miko Marczyk, the reigning European Rally Champion, although outright speed and sideways shenanigans weren't going to help him this time. Instead of chasing tenths of a second, Marczyk spent more than 45 hours squeezing every possible watt-hour from the battery.AdvertisementAdvertisementHis reward was a Guinness World Record for the longest journey by an electric car on a single charge. The Audi surpassed the previous production-car record established by a Lucid Air Grand Touring in 2025.831 Miles Without Plugging InImage Credit: Audi. The attempt began in Poland at 1:55 a.m. on September 11 and followed the Vistula through cities including Krakow, Sandomierz, Warsaw, Toruń, and Grudziądz before reaching Hel on the Baltic Sea. Marczyk then turned around and retraced much of the route. This wasn't a closed test track with carefully controlled traffic. Audi says the A6 remained on public roads throughout the attempt, including stretches driven during rush hour, while temperatures averaged 15 degrees Celsius and dropped as low as seven degrees.More than 45 hours after setting off, the battery finally gave up between Toruń and Ciechocinek. Marczyk had averaged an extraordinary 7.09 kWh per 100 km over the entire 1,338-km journey.Audi's Slippery Shape HelpedThe A6 Sportback e-tron performance uses a 100 kWh battery with 94.9 kWh of usable capacity. Its rear-mounted electric motor produces 367 PS, or approximately 362 hp, and Audi quotes a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of 5.4 seconds.AdvertisementAdvertisementAerodynamics played a major role in stretching the battery. With a drag coefficient of just 0.21, the A6 Sportback e-tron is the most aerodynamic production Audi yet, while regenerative braking can provide up to 220 kW of recuperation.Marczyk also relied on familiar hypermiling techniques, including maintaining proper tire pressure, anticipating traffic, avoiding unnecessary acceleration and braking, and maximizing energy recovery. None of those tricks require modifying the car, although reproducing 831 miles during everyday driving would be another matter entirely.Don't Expect 831 Miles On Your CommuteImage Credit: Audi. The record shouldn't be interpreted as evidence that every A6 e-tron can suddenly travel 72% beyond its WLTP rating. Covering 1,338 km in more than 45 hours indicates just how heavily the run prioritized efficiency over speed.Still, that's exactly what makes the experiment interesting. Rather than demonstrating normal real-world range, Marczyk showed how far an efficient production EV can be pushed when almost every decision is made around conserving energy.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe previous Guinness benchmark belonged to the Lucid Air Grand Touring, which covered 1,205 km, or about 749 miles, in 2025. Audi has now pushed the production-EV mark another 133 km farther, proving that when nobody is in a hurry, 94.9 kWh can take you an awfully long way.If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
