While Porsche's electric sedan looks the same as before, the 2027 Taycan drops its smaller battery and adds simulated shifting and a more comprehensive EV soundscape.PorscheStarting with the changes to the batteries, Porsche removed the previous base battery pack and fitted the entire lineup with the $5780 Performance Battery Plus (PBP) pack. The shift drops the 83.7-kWh pack from the Taycan, Taycan 4, and Taycan 4S and replaces it with the 97.0 kilowatt-hours of usable energy found in the PBP pack.AdvertisementAdvertisementIn something of a surprise move from Porsche, the automaker equipped the new Taycan lineup with simulated shifting, which is controlled by the paddle shifters. When enabled, the new E-Shift mode can toggle between automatic and manual modes. The system simulates an eight-speed gearbox and, Porsche says, is programmed to feel as authentic as possible. That means a virtual rev limiter and gear-specific drag torque when changing gears. The new E-Shift feature pairs with Porsche's updated Porsche Electric Sport Sound feature, which adapts to the accelerator and brake pedals, changing the audio inside and outside the car in real time.According to Porsche, the sound tuning changes depending on which Taycan you own. That means that even when you buy an electric Porsche, the company will still make you pay a premium for the best-sounding models.Porsche also improved the infotainment setup. The Taycan earns Porsche's new Digital Interaction system, which allows for OTA updates and expands the integration of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Along with the infotainment upgrades, Porsche also added a magnet to the wireless phone charger (i.e., Apple's MagSafe), which can now charge up to 1.5 times faster than before. The 2027 Taycan lineup can be ordered now, with deliveries planned to start in the fall. The base price has risen considerably, though most of the increase can be blamed on the larger battery pack. The 2027 Taycan lineup starts at $114,250, up from $108,050 just a year before.➡️ Skip the lot.
