Porsche is plotting a new supercar halo model for its wealthiest customers. The brand’s new hero car makes its debut as the Mission S concept next week. Porsche describes mid-engined Mission S as “our love letter to the sports car.” A new supercar following in the footsteps of the 918 Spyder is the pinnacle of a turnaround plan announced this week by Porsche. The brand teased the Mission S concept ahead of its global debut at next week’s Paris Motor Show, describing it as “our love letter to the sports car.”A video released on Porsche’s Instagram account revealed a few details of the new halo model, including its LED headlights, but not enough to give us any real indication of what it might look like. But it’s possible it might draw some design inspiration from the electric Mission X Porsche revealed in 2023. One thing we can be sure of is that it will sit high above the 911, which already costs between $138,000 and more than $200,000The Mission S was confirmed as part of Porsche’s Sportwagenschmiede ’35 plan detailed this week by CEO Michael Leiters. The automaker has watched sales and profits sink recently, and thinks its return to health is best achieved by making fewer cars, but making a ton more money on each of them. Prices Up, Margins Up Selling a flagship, high-ticket supercar is part of that plan, but Porsche wants to position the entire brand and all of its models at a higher level, increasing the average selling price of its most expensive models by 20 percent, and increasing the margins on everything else.Reducing the number of model variants by 20 percent will help Porsche cut costs, Leiters says, a move that should boost the sales volume of the remaining variants by 30 percent. And Porsche says it will leverage its heritage to deliver more “highly emotive” 911 variants, and emphasize the DNA of the 911 in every model, including SUVs. Gas Macan Follows Electric 718s Porsche wants to push the Cayenne harder, as well as launch another more exclusive SUV that will sit above it. And it confirmed we’ll get a replacement for the now discontinued combustion Macan that will be sold alongside the Macan Electric and offer both straight gas and hybrid power options. That debuts in 2028 – by which time the electric 718 Boxster and Cayman will already be on sale. Other revelations include news that Porsche has increased its stake in Manthey Racing to 67 percent. Manthey will live under a new Performance banner within the Porsche ecosystem, one of three new “pillars” of the business. The others are Heritage and Exclusiveness, that last one covering the Sonderwunsch “special wish” department Porsche says it wants to expand, and the Exclusive Manufaktur personalization team. Porsche
