It goes without saying that the Nissan Rogue is extremely important to Nissan. To fully understand how important it is, consider sales figures for 2025 and the first quarter of 2026. Rogue is Nissan's best-selling vehicle by a wide margin, capturing 217,896 sales last year. That was an off-year, too, falling just outside the top-five list of best-selling SUVs in America. 2026 is improving, climbing 13 percent through the first quarter. But it needs to do better. If Nissan wants to turn its fortunes around, Rogue needs to go hybrid. And we aren't talking about the rebadged PHEV Mitsubishi that recently launched. The full-fat Rogue is the popular one, and Nissan is finally ready to give buyers in America what they want. Say hello to the 2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid e-Power.“Rogue has long been at the heart of Nissan’s success in the US and Canada, and the next generation represents a major step forward for this incredibly important model.”- Ponz Pandikuthira, senior vice president, chief product & planning officer, Nissan Americas Just A Glimpse, For Now Gerhard Horn / CarBuzz / Valnet In another sign of just how important this SUV is for Nissan, America is getting a first-look at the long-awaited Rogue from the company's Nissan Vision event in Japan. Usually, events like this gloss over US markets, but Nissan knows the Rogue (X-Trail as it's called across the pond) is too big a deal to ignore. So we're greeted with a set of photos presenting the Rogue's new angular look.Sadly, that's about all we're greeted with right now. Nissan bills this as a preview of what's to come, and we see a rather sharp departure from the old Rogue's softer, if slightly archaic, face. Remnants of the old V-Motion grille are more or less gone now, though the essence remains in the broad V-shape of the entire face. Grille and lights mesh in a geometric menagerie bordered by sharp angles on each side. Gone are the massive corner vents, replaced here with small triangular openings.2027-nissan-rogue-hybrid-e-power-live3From the side, you'll see familiar Rogue features. The kinks in the C-pillar and D-pillar are largely the same. The scalloped doors down near the rockers are still there. The roof has the same shallow crossover rake to it. Even the door mirrors look like the old ones. But then you see it... sharp body lines on the fenders and quarter panels that follow the beltline then drop to form a large pseudo V. Large pixelated taillights on the corners are connected by a horizontal strip in the middle. For better or worse, the Rogue's exterior is at least proportional. Electric Power, But Not An EV Nissan The big news is what's happening underneath the Rogue's angular new body. Nissan isn't ready to share specific details just yet, but we already know the e-Power hybrid system is similar to a range-extended EV in that the electric motor does all the driving. A gasoline engine merely serves as a generator, creating electricity for the motor (or motors, for all-wheel drive) to work. However, unlike a range-extended EV, there's no big battery pack here. The engine feeds a very small battery, or it can even send electricity directly to the motors if needed.Nissan may not have powertrain specifics for the 2027 Rogue Hybrid e-Power for America, but we expect it to be very similar (if not identical) to what's currently used in the X-Trail. It's a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine that generates power for a 1.8kWh battery pack. It's not large enough for electric-only operation, save for short spurts in parking lots. But it should get buyers around 40 miles per gallon, which looks pretty good with gas prices right now. Horsepower should be somewhere in the 200 range. More To Come NissanThis Rogue preview comes as Nissan outlines a new global strategy that will, among other things, see the return of the Xterra as a body-on-frame SUV. Nissan mentions other body-on-frame vehicles as well, including hybrids, and in Japan, the Nissan Skyline will return.“With hybrid e-Power, the all-new Rogue will bring the smooth, responsive feel of electric motor driving to one of the most popular compact SUVs in North America," said Pandikuthira. "[All] while staying true to what customers value most – efficiency, confidence and everyday usability."2027-nissan-rogue-x-trail-3
