It hasn't even been three months since Nissan revealed a completely new version of its Rogue crossover. But its days are already numbered, and the CarBuzz spy photographers have captured the next-generation Rogue as it goes through winter testing in the US ahead of its reveal. Rogue Will Get A Brand New Look CarBuzz/Valnet The prototype for the 2027 Nissan Rogue has ditched the graphic wrap for this all-black one, but it doesn't make it much easier to spy what's going on. The baggy fabric and more than healthy amounts of what looks like duct tape – even the rear spoiler is tape – do an excellent job of making things confusing. We can make out some new details, though. Like the new grille, which blends elements of the latest Nissan Leaf EV and the Nissan Murano crossover to create a face that's new to the Rogue but also clearly Nissan-branded.CarBuzz/Valnet Heavy detailing in the headlights show that it will have a complex multi-light design. It also appears to have a new three-lamp accent light above the headlight location. At the back, the taillights are hidden by a black tape matrix that does a solid job of hiding the layout. But look past the tape, and you'll see a strong resemblance to the rear lights of the Sentra and Murano. Though an image with the previous camo shows that the rear lights are wrapping around well into the rear fender. The striped center brake light is interesting as well, but it, too, is tape. More Efficient Hybrid System Coming CarBuzz/Valnet We know that Nissan is planning a new hybrid system to go along with the brand-new Rogue. Nissan has previously told CarBuzz that the new model will have fuel economy that will "match what you see from a RAV4 or a CR-V [hybrid] with a far better driving experience."According to Nissan's American Senior Vice President and Chief Planning Officer, Ponz Pandikuthira, that could mean 39-41 mpg combined. Even better, all the e-Power Rogue models will have all-wheel drive as standard. That system will use two electric motors and a series hybrid system. The gas engine will only be used to charge the battery pack, though it won't offer a significant electric range like a PHEV or EREV can.CarBuzz/ValnetPandikuthira said that this series layout means Nissan won't link the engine to the wheels like Honda's current system does. He said that should help boost efficiency as well as reduce cabin vibration. This is the third generation of Nissan's e-Power technology, which went on sale in Europe last year. The Qashqai, which uses the system in Europe, gets 188 horsepower. The US-bound Rogue is expected to get at least 201 horsepower if not more.Like the 2027 model year suggests, Nissan plans to reveal the new Rogue and have it on sale before the end of this year. We understand that initial production is expected to be imported from Japan before US production starts in 2028. Though with Nissan's plant in Smyrna reportedly underutilized and vehicles from Japan facing tariffs, it may be looking to ramp up US production much sooner, if not from launch.2027 Nissan Rogue (8)
