Xiaomi also said its chief test driver, Ren Zhoucan, became the first Chinese driver to receive official Nürburgring lap certification. The announcement comes two days before the official launch of the Xiaomi YU7 GT on May 21 at 19:00 in China. Xiaomi founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun previously said the YU7 GT was developed as a “pure-blood GT” performance SUV. Nürburgring benchmark The 7:34.931 result surpassed the previous Nürburgring SUV production record set by the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, which recorded a lap time of 7:38.925. Xiaomi did not disclose full Nürburgring test specifications alongside the lap time announcement. The Nürburgring Nordschleife is one of the automotive industry’s most closely watched benchmark circuits, frequently used by automakers to validate high-performance production vehicles. The YU7 GT record follows Xiaomi’s broader Nürburgring performance campaign that began with the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra sedan. In June 2025, the SU7 Ultra set a Nürburgring production EV record and later recorded a 6:22.091 lap, making it the third-fastest car overall at the circuit at the time among officially recognized production-based entries. Xiaomi also highlighted that Ren Zhoucan received official Nürburgring certification tied to the lap record program. Launch scheduled for May 21 Xiaomi confirmed earlier that the YU7 GT will officially launch on May 21. The model has already started arriving at dealerships across China ahead of the launch event. Regulatory filings and dealership displays indicate the YU7 GT is positioned as a high-performance electric SUV with up to 990 hp. Xiaomi previously disclosed a top speed of 300 km/h and a CLTC range of 705 km for the model. Performance positioning According to China EV DataTracker, Xiaomi’s current flagship performance vehicle, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra sedan, has a combined output of 1,138 kW, a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 2.1 seconds, and a top speed of 350 km/h. The sedan is priced at 529,900 yuan (77,800 USD). The SU7 Ultra features a three-motor all-wheel-drive setup, a 93.7 kWh ternary NMC battery pack, and Xiaomi HAD-assisted driving technology powered by dual Nvidia Drive Orin X chips. The expected specifications and market positioning for the YU7 GT suggest that Xiaomi is applying a similar high-performance strategy to the SUV segment.
