Image Credit: @bird_and_bear/TikTokA woman was left questioning the safety of her Ford Expedition SUV after a slightly terrifying experience involving the seatbelts, only to find out that there had been a recall of the car due to the issues. This was laid bare by TikTok user Cassie (@bird_and_bear).Cassie is the owner of a Ford Expedition Limited Stealth Edition, an SUV that she describes as one that she loves on her TikTok account. But she wasn't left happy after a recent driving experience left her son trapped in the seatbelts after an emergency stop.Cassie had been out driving the car with her son in the passenger seat of the car. A sudden, loud and unexpected noise caused her to slam on the brakes, which had left her son plastered all over the seat, thanks to a problem with the seatbelt in the SUV.AdvertisementAdvertisementAfter the incident and having untrapped her son, she soon discovered that there was a recall for the Ford Expedition. This was something that she didn't know about, and she wasn't left pleased after the dealership told her how long she might have to wait in order to get the problem fixed. What Happened to Cassie and Her Ford Expedition?Cassie was driving the Ford Expedition Limited Stealth Edition with her son in the passenger seat. It was during this drive that she heard a very loud sound from the front of the car, which made her think that a rifle had gone off. I thought we'd been shot," Cassie said in her video. The sudden nature of the noise and its loudness caused her to brake suddenly. After that, she turned to look at her son, and then saw him, as she put it, "plastered against the seat." After she had slammed on the brakes, his seatbelt had tightened up around him, and it would not release. She managed to get him out without having to cut the seatbelt, but there was another problem. The seatbelt did not work, as it would not retract or extend, so that left her very displeased.Amazingly, after this, a letter came through from Ford that explained there was a recall due to a seat belt issue. Having contacted her dealership to get it fixed, Cassie was then told there was, at the time of writing, no solution available. So she would have to wait until at least September before any fix might be available. At the time of writing, her video had been seen over 500,000 times. This Is Why Ford Has Issued an Expedition RecallImage Credit: FordThe issue affecting Cassie is also affecting hundreds of thousands of Expedition SUVs. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), at least 420,000 recalls have been issued for 2018 to 2022 Expedition models, as well as some Lincoln Navigators.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe issue is that the driver or front passenger seatbelt pretensioner may accidentally lock. That is what causes it not to retract or extend properly. A seatbelt with this issue could massively increase the risk of an injury in an accident. While they are meant to lock in certain accidents, these faulty parts in the Ford and Lincoln SUVs may lock when they are not supposed to. This could cause harm in other situations, such as sudden braking and emergency stops.Ford has instructed dealerships to inspect the seatbelt retractors and, if they are deemed to be at fault, to replace them at no cost to the car's owner. The VIN of a vehicle can be entered into the NHTSA's recall lookup tool, which will identify if your vehicle is part of the recall if you have had no official word from Ford. Recall letters were sent out in June 2026, and Ford itself hopes a fix can be implemented by August. If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
