When a show is call All-Ford one would assume that every car there would be wearing a Ford badge. The recent All-Ford show sponsored by the Tri-State Mustang Club saw plenty of cars with the blue oval logo but there was one, very obvious, exception. It was a De Tomaso Pantera. Introduced in 1971 by the Italy based company founded by former racer Alejadro de Tomaso, the Pantera was a mid-engine two seat, high revving sports car. The car was designed by American born Tom Tjaarda. He was born in Detroit of Dutch ancestry and after graduating from the University of Michigan he earned an internship at Carrozzeria Ghia in Italy where the Pantera was one of many amazing designs. So, this is truly an international car. But what makes it eligible to be in an all-Ford show? Well, partly the fact that Ford had purchased a controlling interest in De Tomaso the year the Pantera was introduced. But more importantly, the car was powered by a 5.8 L (351 cubic inch) Ford Cleveland V 8 engine. Also on display at this event were a few different generation Mustangs and a Lincoln Navigator.
