British Company Turns Defender Into Sport TruckUrban AutomotiveThe Goodwood Festival of Speed has no shortage of exciting new car debuts. But one of the most intriguing this year wasn't a car; it was a pickup truck. It's called the Urban Widetrack Avontur, and it involves British aftermarket specialist Urban Automotive converting a Land Rover Defender 110 into what the Milton Keynes-based shop calls a "luxury sports-leisure truck."For the Widetrack Avontur, Urban Automotive replaces the entire rear body architecture of the Defender with a hand-made carbon-fiber pickup bed. The result is one of the wildest Land Rover conversions yet. How many owners would actually be willing to throw tools and mulch in the bed remains to be seen; let's be honest, the Avontur seems destined for yacht clubs, not Home Depot runs.Urban AutomotiveAdditional carbon-fiber components include the hood, side vents, and side trim, complemented by widened fender arches, front aero blades, gloss-black side steps, and high-power LED daytime running lights. Inside, the cabin receives quilted and perforated leather upholstery along with Recaro sport seats. The package is completed with bespoke structural engineering, an integrated modular utility rail system, and a rear wheel cover. And speaking of wheels: buyers get to choose between several different sets of 24-inch alloy rums.Urban AutomotiveNo pricing information has been revealed; however, words like Land Rover, hand-built, and carbon fiber suggest that it will not be inexpensive. Road & Track reached out to Urban to inquire about availability for American customers, but the company did not reply in time for this story's publication; we'll provide an update if we hear back. Whether it does come to the U.S. or not, the Avontur certainly won't be for everyone. But exclusivity has always been part of luxury's appeal, and the Avontur is one of the most distinctive Defender-based vehicles that we've certainly ever seen. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
