Range Rover Electric Gets Modern Classic DesignLand RoverDespite a market that seems to want less than 10 percent EVs, Range Rover has nonetheless released its first all-electric vehicle: the very unambiguously titled Range Rover Electric. From the spec sheet it looks like a bit of a hot rod, too, sporting 542 hp and 627 lb‑ft of all-electric torque from one front and one rear-mounted motor. The big SUV still manages to put out up to 333 miles of EPA range (or 376 miles on the wildly optimistic European WLTP cycle). That's thanks to a 118.5 kWh battery, with cells stacked two-deep, bolted under the floor, and running on a fast and efficient 800-volt electrical system. The grille and the wheels are the only items different from the gas and hybrid Range Rovers.Land Rover"Quieter, more effortless, more responsive, and with more torque than any Range Rover to date, Range Rover Electric combines peerless design with exceptional refinement and breathtaking modernity," Rover proudly proclaimed.AdvertisementAdvertisementIt gets that breathtaking modernity because, apart from the grille and the wheels, it looks almost exactly like the regular Range Rover both inside and out.It even rides on the same JLR flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA-Flex) that can accommodate internal combustion gasoline, diesel, and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains. The big battery can recharge from 10-80 percent in as little as 22 minutes, too, or add up to 125 miles of range in just 10 minutes, Rover says, that is assuming you can find a 350-kW charger. Those numbers are thanks to what Rover calls "split charging," a feature that splits the double-stacked battery pack into two units so it can charge efficiently on common 400-volt DC fast chargers instead of needing a far-less-common 800-volt charging station. The JLR flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA-Flex) that can accommodate internal combustion gasoline, diesel, and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains.Land RoverOn the road, the Range Rover Electric can get to 60 mph in as few as 4.3 seconds, with power enabling overtaking speeds from 50‑75 mph in as little as 2.7 seconds.AdvertisementAdvertisementPricing will start at $140,550 including destination when the Electric goes on sale next year. That's more than just about everything in the class of large electric crossovers. The Cadillac Escalade IQ is around $130,000, the Mercedes EQS SUV starts at around 90k, and everything else falls off in price from there. Even the Lucid Gravity hovers at about 80 grand to start. Will it succeed? The US electric vehicle market showed a recovery in the second quarter of 2026, with sales rising about 14 percent compared to the first quarter. So maybe it will, especially since gas prices continue to do back flips due to various world events. Let's see.
