The flagship Ninja has undergone a notable update for this year, along with a sizable price cut. Yes, you read that right. Both of those things mean that you now have a more complete product while paying less money than before—an uber rare occurrence in this space. What also helps is that all of its rivals have had price hikes in 2026. To talk numbers, the 2026 ZX-10R starts from $16,999, and the addition of ABS bumps the price to $17,999. That price puts it right in contention with the Honda CBR1000RR (not the RR-R SP) and Suzuki GSX-R1000, both of which have had no updates since 2017. At the same time, the price is around $2,000 cheaper than the European rivals like the BMW S 1000 RR and Aprilia RSV4. A Proven Inline-Four Engine Honed Over Years KawasakiThe 10R features a proven inline-four engine here that displaces 998 cubic centimeters from a 76 mm bore and 55 mm stroke, running a 13:1 compression ratio. In 2026, the engine has finger-follower valve actuation to boost the spread of power and an extra O2 sensor to meet modern-day emission norms. The Weight Has Increased To Over 460 LBs KawasakiThe ZX-10R has always been one of the heavier superbikes in its class, and things are worse in 2026. With no weight saving measures to the twin-spar aluminum chassis and an aluminum swingarm, the curb weight is currently 463 pounds wet with ABS. That’s seven more than the 2025 bike and around 30 pounds higher than the average weight in the class. We’re glad the seat height (32.5 inches) is manageable, though. New TFT Improves The Cockpit Experience Once aboard the saddle, you’re greeted by a new 5-inch display. This is similar to the new Z900 and has better readability than the outgoing 4.3-inch TFT. Auto brightness and a new race bike-like shift light are part of it, too. As you’d expect, the TFT also serves as the centerpiece to the electronic aids. Ride modes, traction control, engine brake control, cornering ABS, power modes, and a two-way quickshifter are all standard. Cruise control and launch control round things off.
