For the first several decades of its existence, McLaren focused on racing, primarily in Formula One but also in the Can-Am series for sports car prototypes during the late 1960s and early 1970s. More recently, the company has established itself as a world-class company for production cars, with models such as the Artura and 750S.Now, McLaren is preparing to enter the FIA World Endurance Championship’s Hypercar class from 2027 with the newly unveiled MCL-HY FIA Hypercar. While the racer is intriguing, the company is also debuting a version for customers called the MCL-HY GTR. The track-only machine lets wealthy clients experience levels of performance generally available only to racers competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The company is currently courting VIP clients who want to participate in the unique opportunity. A Race Car And A Track Machine McLarenMcLaren will test the MCL-HY and GTR throughout the rest of the year. During development, the race car will wear the brand's trademark Papaya Orange color with exposed carbon-fiber elements and Bruce McLaren's autograph on each flank. The color scheme takes inspiration from the McLaren M6A Can-Am race car. Meanwhile, the MCL-HY GTR will be identifiable from its mostly silver body with Papaya Orange and exposed carbon. Other than the different color scheme, the two cars look identical. The MCL-HY race car uses a hybrid-assisted, twin-turbocharged V6 making up to 697 horsepower. The rules stipulate a minimum weight of 2,270 pounds, and the car rides on a lightweight carbon-fiber monocoque chassis.McLarenThe MCL-HY GTR doesn't have to apply to any racing regulations, though. Power comes from a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 with no hybrid system but it makes 720 horsepower. By removing this equipment, the track car version can be lighter than the competition variant.Clients will be able to take part in a two-year, six-event driving program at circuits all over the world. Customers will also receive professional driving coaching, a dedicated pit crew, and racing engineering support. Deliveries begin in late 2027. A Racing Experience McLarenThe MCL-HY GTR will offer an FIA Hypercar experience, unprecedented in its accessibility, to track driving enthusiasts. Those who come with us on this journey will see and feel the absolute best of McLaren, and how our racing heritage is shaping our future more than ever.- Nick Collins, Chief Executive Officer, McLaren Automotive.McLaren's goal is to win another Triple Crown of Motorsport, which would require the team to score victories in the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix, Indianapolis 500, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans (but not necessarily in the same year). McLaren won the Indy 500 several times in the 1970s and has scored multiple top results in Monaco. However, it has only scored a single overall win at Le Mans, with the F1 crossing the finish line first in 1995.02-16x9Source: McLaren
