The VW Atlas is stacking up its in-car gaming experience with Tetris.AirConsoleIt can feel like a game of Tetris to pack up the car for a weekend away, but now Tetris is in the car.The 2027 Volkswagen Atlas debuted the in-car game Tetris for the first time in North America at New York Comic Con Thursday. An integration through AirConsole allows passengers (and the driver) to play games on the car's center screen using connected phones. The car has to be parked to play.The Tetris Company brings the puzzle game Tetris to the new Atlas SUV, which is revamped with new styling for the new model year, and the 2027 three-row SUV will display its ambient lighting throughout the cabin in sync with the Tetris game playing on the car screen in real time.Since this is gaming in a car there are different modes and features depending on the situation. There's single-player mode better suited for waiting alone in the car, but up to four players can join in if on a road trip or driving with family. While the Atlas is a gas-powered vehicle, AirConsole is available in many EVs like the VW ID. Buzz and Porsche Macan Electric. This opens up game play while charging at a public charging station.While the concept of Tetris—clear horizontal lines by slotting various blocks and shapes together—remains the same, the car version has a selection of different game types:Sprint: Clear 40 lines as quickly as possible, either solo or against other playersMarathon: The original Tetris game with the goal of achieving the highest score, either on your own or with multi-playersBattle: Head-to-head play against other players in the carOnline Battle: Compete against other Tetris car players from around the world or battle your friends (who are not in the car)To play Tetris in a VW you need an active In-Vehicle Premium plan through a myVW+ subscription. That's where AirConsole is housed. Car buyers get three months of In-Vehicle Premium included with a 2027 purchase. In-Vehicle Premium is $149 for the year in a new Atlas after the first three months.The AirConsole app is in the infotainment system's app menu. Only parked cars can open AirConsole. The app connects to smartphones through a QR code. Once connected, the smartphone is a controller and users can click on Tetris to start playing.N-Dream, the company behind AirConsole, is all about in-car experiences with AirConsole turning the car into a gaming console for many racing and multi-player games. AirConsole is already in other Volkswagen models including the Tiguan, Golf GTI, Golf R and ID. Buzz.
