sailun atrezzo 4s all weather tire reviewIt's no secret new cars are expensive these days. The average cost to purchase a new vehicle continues to increase, prompting many folks to keep their current cars a little longer. But the older a car gets, and the more it's driven, parts begin to wear out and need replacing. Parts like a vehicle's tires. Buying a set of new tires for an aging vehicle is a bit of a conundrum. On one hand, it's important to get a quality set of tires as they are the most important safety system on a vehicle, being that they are the only things in contact with the road. On the other hand, price is an important factor, especially for those of us with older vehicle we're trying to get a multiple more years out of.This is the segment that tire companies like Sailun specializes in, building quality tires at a more value price point. One of the brand's latest offerings looks to give consumers in regions with occasional snow and cold weather a one-tire solution. Called the Atrezzo 4S, it falls into the growing segment of all-weather tires. Unlike all-season tires, an all-weather tire is better situation for snowy and icy conditions. They come with the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) certification like winter tires.sailun atrezzo 4s all weather tire reviewNot as singularly-purpose built as a full-winter tire, the idea behind an all-weather tire is to give consumers in regions with milder winters a one tire solution, eliminating the costs and storage needs of having dedicated winter tires and dedicated summer tires. Although this isn't my first experience with an all-weather tire, it is my first time testing one that plays more in the value portion of the tire market.Sailun Atrezzo 4S All-Weathersailun atrezzo 4s all weather tire reviewAdvertisementAdvertisementThe Sailun Atrezzo 4S features an asymmetric tread pattern, with specially formulated rubber compound that is touted to stay flexible in sub-zero temperatures. When the wintery mess starts to hit the ground, there are circumferential grooves and multi-siped tread blocks that retain traction, expelling water and slush away from the tires' contact patches. The rest of the tire's construction is intended to help in drier, warm weather, focusing on handling, stability, and traction. Of course, keeping road noise and vibrations to a minimum are also important. That stated, there is a distinct road hum at most speeds. Nothing overly intrusive, just the mild hum associated with all-weather tires.Warm Weather Testingsailun atrezzo 4s all weather tire reviewTo see if the Sailun Atrezzo 4S All-Weather tire can live up to all these claims, we installed a set on an older, popular car, a 2016 Honda Accord V6 Touring in the standard 235/40R19 size. On our first drive during a warm fall day, we initially noticed that the Atrezzo sidewall feels softer than that of the OEM tire it replaced. The Sailun smoothens out road surfaces, eliminating smaller bumps. It does reduce steering feel fractionally, as this is not a performance tire. The benefit to this greater isolation is less vibrations and harshness making their way into the cabin, a trade-off well worth it for a consumer tire.sailun atrezzo 4s all weather tire reviewAlthough we didn't really push the limits of the car or tire when it came to cornering, grip levels feel equal to the average all-season tire in dry conditions. Acceleration and braking provide little to no slip, while under moderate cornering the tires do not overly roll over on the sidewall or squirm. Like stated above, this is not a performance tire, but a very predictable one in how it behaves, building confidence behind the wheel. It makes the car feel a bit more responsive since the rolling resistance is low.AdvertisementAdvertisementOf course, with a less aggressive tread pattern, vibration and noise levels from the Atrezzo 4S are far less than a winter tire. It's equal to many all-season tires, but not quite at the refinement levels of the market leaders.Wet Road Testingsailun atrezzo 4s all weather tire reviewThis is where an all-weather tire really excels in my experience and the Sailun Atrezzo is no exception. The sipes, water channels, and grooves built in for winter weather also dispel regular rainwater at an efficient pace. The Accord we tested the tires on was less prone to spinning its front wheels under acceleration on drenched roads.Cornering grip is also at least the equal of all-season tires, probably besting many of them. Deeper rain puddles are where we noticed the biggest difference between this all-weather tire and other all-season Sailun products we've tested in the past.Winter Testingsailun atrezzo 4s all weather tire reviewDuring our winter testing, we were pleased with the performance of the Atrezzo 4S as it met our expectations for an all-weather tire. Without a dedicated, aggressive tread pattern, acceleration and braking capabilities don't quite match the best pure-winter tires on the market. There is a bit of slip when either is done to the extreme. That said, during normal driving, in small to moderate amounts of snow, traction when accelerating from a rest, or slowing down for a stop are far better than a typical all-season tire. For a bit more reference, the overall performance of the Atrezzo 4S is much closer to a winter tire than an all-season.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe side benefit of having full diameter channels in the Atrezzo 4S compared to a traditional winter tire, is a lack of vibration and road noise on dry pavement – something all winter tires have in varying degrees. Cornering grip and lateral bite is probably the best attribute of this all-weather Sailun in snowy conditions. The Verdict: Sailun Atrezzo 4S All-Weather Tiresailun atrezzo 4s all weather tire reviewThe Sailun Atrezzo 4S All Weather lived up to our expectations for an all-weather tire. In areas with lighter winters, it is a good option for a single tire solution, as long as a bit of extra care is taken when driving. It's overall capabilities and performance are close to those of the top tier tires on the market, but of course, the Sailun has a much lower price point.Currently, the Atrezzo 4S comes in nearly 50 sizes, starting from the smallest 185/65R15 up to largest 265/50R20. It also includes a 60,000-mile/100,000 KM/60-month Limited Tread Life Protection warranty.Become an AutoGuide insider.
