The 2027 Ram Chassis Cab adds black-painted wheels, black badging and several body-colored exterior elements to the 3500, 4500 and 5500, giving buyers a more customized-looking truck straight from the factory.Unlike the Night Edition packages applied to Ram's commercial pickup trucks, this one is going onto chassis-cab models designed around commercial work and upfitting. The result is an appearance-focused option for a part of the lineup where the body behind the cab can ultimately be configured for a wide range of jobs. The Night Edition Changes The Look, Not The MissionThe Chassis Cab Night Edition follows the same basic formula used by Ram elsewhere in its lineup: replace chrome and brightwork with darker exterior details.RamView the 3 images of this gallery on the original articleAdvertisementAdvertisementThe package includes a Sport Performance hood, black-painted wheels, black badging and dark headlight bezels. The grille surround, front bumper and fender flares are finished in body color, while ParkSense front and rear park assist is also included.Ram says the package is aimed at Chassis Cab owners and commercial customers who want a workhorse truck with a more distinctive road presence. The company is positioning that appearance as an extension of the customer's business, rather than simply another mechanical upgrade.Three Chassis Cab Models Can Get ItThe Night Edition is available across the Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 Chassis Cab lineup. Big Horn buyers pay $3,595 for the package when their truck is equipped with the Level 1 or Level 2 Equipment Group. The price drops to $3,045 on Laramie models. Both regular-cab and crew-cab configurations are eligible. Ram plans to open the order books during the fourth quarter of 2026, with deliveries starting later this year. The package will make a public appearance at the 2026 Farm Progress Show in Boone, Iowa. The Cummins Still Brings 800 Pound-FeetThe Night Edition, being a cosmetic-only differentiator, doesn't get any powertrain changes. The 2027 Chassis Cab lineup offers a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 producing 375 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, or a 6.7-liter Cummins turbo-diesel inline-six producing 60 hp and 800 lb-ft. Both engines are paired with a TorqueFlite HD eight-speed automatic transmission with an electronic column shifter.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe capabilities vary considerably across the three Chassis Cab models. A Ram 3500 Chassis Cab with the Cummins can tow up to 25,590 pounds and carry up to 6,830 pounds of payload. The figures rise to 29,400 pounds of maximum towing and 8,420 pounds of payload for the 4500. At the top of the range, the Ram 5500 with the Cummins is rated for up to 34,540 pounds of towing and 11,490 pounds of payload, with a maximum gross combined weight rating of 43,000 pounds. It Is Still Built Around The UpfitUnderneath the styling package is a chassis designed around commercial applications. Ram offers four frame lengths measured from the cab to the rear axle: 60, 84, 108 and 120 inches. The frame rails are spaced 34 inches apart. The 2027 frame uses up to 97 percent high-strength steel and eight separate cross members. At the rear, the frame uses a C-channel design with a flat mounting surface.RamRam also keeps the area above the frame rails free of components, leaving room for upfit and accessory installation. Pre-drilled holes are positioned throughout the frame to help route upfit lines or mount hardware. That combination is what makes the Night Edition an interesting addition to the lineup. The visual treatment is meant to draw customers who want something more distinctive, but with the core essence of the truck underneath. This story was originally published by Autoblog on Sep 2, 2026, where it first appeared in the News section.
