2027 Ram 1500 TRX SRT is the Maddest Stock Truck, and I Want OneAutoblogAmos KwonTue, September 22, 2026 at 7:30 PM UTCAdd us on GoogleAutoblog and Yahoo may earn commission from links in this article.Sometimes Too Much is Just RightIn the battle for high-performance pickup truck supremacy, there are only two contenders in play in 2027. The first, and most famous, is the Ford F-150 Raptor R. The second is this one, the 2027 Ram TRX SRT, returning after a two-year hiatus, but this time with even more power. Both trucks have supercharged V8s under the hood, but the TRX SRT gets bumped up to make it the most powerful factory gas pickup truck in existence.Amos KwonThe Raptor R is powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter Coyota V8 engine with 720 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque, but the TRX SRT's is bigger: a 6.2-liter HEMI V8 Hellcat engine that now delivers 75 hp and 30 lb-ft. more lb-ft more than 2024's for a total of 777 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of torque. Take that, Ford.AdvertisementAdvertisementMy tester's base price was $99,995. With options such as the Trailer Tow Group ($595), Bed Utility Group ($945), and the Dual Pane Panoramic Sunroof ($1,595), plus the $2,795 destination charge, the total price came to $111,945. Standard feature highlights included Launch Assist, a surround–view camera system, electronic full–time 4WD–mode–only transfer case, high–performance brakes, electronic locking rear axle, front and rear active–performance shock absorbers, adaptive damping, heated front seatsUconnect 5 Nav with 12.0″ touchscreen, and Performance Pages.Intimidation Dialed All the Way UpAmos KwonThe TRX SRT is based on the venerable Ram 1500 truck, which is tough-looking all on its own. Ram gives the TRX the full beans, making wider (by almost 8 inches), taller, slightly longer, and with more ground clearance. The huge hood bulge and illuminated scoop, red recovery points, bulging fenders, Howitzer-sized twin tailpipes, TRX badging, and massive 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory All-Terrain tires on the 18-inch beadlock capable wheels set it apart from the rest of the Ram 1500 pack.Amos KwonThe TRX SRT is based on the venerable Ram 1500 truck, which is tough-looking all on its own. Black subdues some of the TRX SRT's appearance, and only the red appointments and big quadrants point to its performance and off-road focus. Black is also the only monochromatic paint color available. The other paint colors are all two tone.Amos KwonView the 4 images of this gallery on the original articleAdvertisementAdvertisementThe huge hood bulge and illuminated scoop, red recovery points, bulging fenders, Howitzer-sized twin tailpipes, TRX badging, and massive 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory All-Terrain tires on the 18-inch beadlock capable wheels set it apart from the rest of the Ram 1500 pack. The only thing missing from it is the optional bedside and hood decals. That absence makes it a little lower on the radar, if that's possible.Darth Vader's Rolling LoungeAmos KwonFor $110 grand all in, you'd think that the interior of the TRX would be more opulent. It's not, but it works for a pricey performance truck because it has just enough to make it convincing. Leather seats, suede appointments, matte carbon fiber, red stitching, red highlights, and TRX embroidery on the backrests of the front seats give it just the right amount of specialized treatment to make it unlike any other Ram 1500 in the lineup.Amos KwonView the 4 images of this gallery on the original articleThe seats are on the firm side, but they're wide and accommodating with solid bolstering to hold you in place, which you'll find yourself needing more than you realize. In terms of room, six-plus-footers can sit behind themselves without issue. 45.2 inches of rear legroom is positively cavernous, and the other dimensions are similarly generous: 39.8 inches of rear shoulder room, 65.7 inches of rear hiproom, and 63.4 inches of rear headroom.View the 4 images of this gallery on the original articleAdvertisementAdvertisementThere are also plenty of convenient storage choices including good door pockets, dual phone charger docks, a large center armrest, center console side pockets, a dash tray behind the infotainment screen, and a large storage compartment with a retractable door above the glovebox. There are even integrated MOLLE webbing loops on the seatbacks that provide anchor points to hold tactical gear, storage pouches, etc.Thinking about selling your car? Its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 now produces 777 horsepower—up a whopping 75 hp from 2024. Torque also climbs from 650 to 680 lb-ft. While it really didn't need this, the TRX SRT is now the most powerful stock truck on earth, surpassing the Ford Raptor R's 720 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque. In everyday driving, the TRX SRT seems like overkill because it is. The whine of the supercharger is sonorous (to me, at least), but everyone within earshot thinks you're speeding even if you're not. The TRX's engine sounds like a million baritone hornets in full assault mode. That noise is backed by the kind of acceleration that's virtually performance EV immediate. It pulls like a freight train and a rocket sled, combined. Off the line, the TRX responds with monster thrust and an almost deafening supercharger whine. Not only will it roast most sports cars, but everyone else just has to get out of your way.Amos KwonView the 2 images of this gallery on the original articleAdvertisementAdvertisementThe TRX is moderately firm over pavement, but it rides smoother than I expected. The AT tires and compliant suspension don't completely compensate for the SRT's heavily reinforced, high-strength steel ladder frame that's 98 percent distinct from the stock 1500 frame, and it's meant to absorb extreme off-road impacts and high-speed desert jumps. There's heft and precision to the steering, but feedback is vague. The TRX SRT retains its Launch Control feature. Just push the button on the dashboard, straighten the steering wheel, hold the brake pedal firmly, and then floor the accelerator before releasing the brake when the system prompts you via the instrument panel. Then, just watch all hell break loose. The TRX SRT is more than just about raw power, though. It's meant to be a high-speed off-roader. It has the goods to prove it, too.View the 2 images of this gallery on the original articleThe suspension system can take punishment and then some. The setup of the 2027 Ram 1500 TRX SRT features factory-installed Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive performance shocks. The Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive dampers have had their software retuned, and both the internal and external bump stops have been tweaked. There's still a huge 13.0 inches of front suspension travel and 14.0 inches in back. Ground clearance remains the same as 2024 at 11.8 inches. I didn't have the opportunity to take it off-road, but I drove at some massive speed bumps at 40 mph without braking, and the TRX brushed them off like they were nothing.AdvertisementAdvertisementThat said, the SRT is remarkably easy to drive, aside from its size. There were numerous occasions when I retracted the side mirrors in order to squeeze down narrow streets with cars parked on both sides. It's not an everyday driver but only because its size and gas mileage (EPA estimated 12 in combined driving, 10 mpg during my test period) prevent it from being daily livable. There's ample space and storage for families, but only high speed packed dirt jumps and desert runs and can truly exploit the TRXs impressive capabilities.Final ThoughtsThe Ram 1500 TRX SRT thumbs its colossal nose at every turbo-four crossover and virtually every EV made today. Its power and rugged capabilities are virtually unduplicated. It has only one rival, the Ford F-150 Raptor R, which costs about $15 grand more. The TRX SRT certainly isn't for everyone. In fact, it will even scare conventional plenty of full-sized truck owners based on its power and price. But for those who can actually make use of its dune-bombing capabilities and pavement warping thrust, it's a gem. This story was originally published by Autoblog on Sep 22, 2026, where it first appeared in the Reviews section.
