Saleen Has a New Sports Car That You Can Pre-OrderSaleenSaleen has now opened order books for the road-legal S1 Street, the newest sports car from the maker of the iconic S7.The automaker claims a 3.2-second zero-to-60-mph time, 450 horsepower, 425 pound-feet of torque, and a 180-mph top speed in race trim.Pricing for the S1 Street starts at $160,000, with the race car starting at $250,000; reservations start at $1000 and $2000, respectively. It seems that revealing or launching cars you first announced more than half a decade ago is in vogue right now. After another delay, Tesla is planning to reveal the Roadster on October 15, nearly 10 years after it was first unveiled. Saleen is in a similar boat. The American sports car manufacturer, which garnered fame for the vaunted S7, has officially opened up reservations for the S1 Street roughly eight years after it was first shown at the 2018 Los Angeles auto show.Unlike many American supercars that live by the phrase "there's no replacement for displacement," the S1 Street is built to be lightweight and agile. If things haven't changed since the S1 was first revealed, the Saleen features carbon-fiber bodywork that's neatly wrapped over an aluminum chassis. The company has also claimed it weighs just 2685 pounds. That low curb weight means that the S1 will be plenty quick, despite a relatively pedestrian—for 2026 standards—horsepower figure. According to Saleen, the road-legal version of the S1 will make 450 horsepower, 425 pound-feet of torque, and sprint from zero to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. In road configuration, the automaker claims a top speed of 171 mph. The race configuration rocks the same power figures as the road car, but it drops the 60-mph time to 2.9 seconds and increases the top speed to 180 mph.Pricing for the road-bound S1 starts at $160,000 (likely not including destination). The race car is said to start at an even $250,000. Reservations are $1000 for the street-legal S1 and $2000 for the race car. Both are fully refundable.➡️ Skip the lot.
