Not only did the wedge-shaped vehicle help define the brand's current design language, but it was also the first of the automaker's first supercar to feature all-wheel drive and to top 200 mph. The GT, which was released near the end of the model's lifespan, is the vehicle at its most hardcore, pairing a more aggressive aero package with an even larger V-12. Despite its track-oriented nature, the high-performance variant was street legal in Europe, but not enough units were imported to the U.S. for it to gain the same classification (because this is example is more than 25 years old, it's now exempt from federal safety and emission standards).2000 Lamborghini Diablo GTThe GT up for auction was the 74th example to leave the company's factory in Sant'Agata Bolognese. Its primarily carbon-fiber exterior, which featured a more sculpted hood, wider quarter panels, and a larger rear diffuser, is finished in a glossy coat of Black Rage. The interior of the car, including its racing harness-equipped sport seats, is covered in matching Nero leather. The car also comes with a rare factory tan leather briefcase. As attractive as the supercar may be, its true selling point then, as now, is its performance. The GT comes with a naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V-12 engine, which has 0.3 liters more displacement than the vehicle's standard mill. Thanks to that change, the car makes 567 hp and 465 ft lbs of torque, which was sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual (the Diablo's standard all-wheel-drive system was omitted to save weight). Bonhams's example has less than 9,000 miles on the odometer and looks to have been well maintained over the years.Inside the Diablo GTThe auction house hasn't said how much they expect this Diablo GT to fetch when it crossed the block on Thursday, August 13, at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Still, anyone who wants to take this car home should expect the winning bid to cross over into seven-figure territory.AdvertisementAdvertisementClick here to see more photos of the 2000 Lamborghini Diablo GT.Best of Robb ReportThe 2024 Chevy C8 Corvette: Everything We Know About the Powerful Mid-Engine BeastThe World's Best Superyacht ShipyardsThe ABCs of Chartering a YachtSign up for RobbReports's Newsletter.
