The Petersen Automotive Museum’s Japanese Car Cruise-In was a showcase for cool cars from Japan of all kinds. The Petersen provided some photos of the event, but no captions, so here are our best guesses as to what each of these was.2027 Toyota Land CruiserThe Land Cruiser features prominently in Forza Horizon 6.2027 Toyota GR GTAnother car featured in Forza Horizon 6 is the upcoming supercar, Gazoo Racing's GR GT, which made its debut in red at the Petersen's Japanese Car Cruise-In.Nissan SkylineThe third-gen Nissan Skyline was made from 1966 to 1972.Datsun ZThe Fairlady Z was made from 1969 to 1978, badged in the US as the 240Z, 260Z, and 280Z.Nissan Z NISMOThe most recent Z NISMO came with more power, stiffer chassis, better tires, and better brakes. Sadly, the manual transmission, available on the regular Z, is not even an option on the Z NISMO, which can be had only with the nine-speed automatic. Asked about the transmission at the Z NISMOs launch in Los Angeles, Nissan execs said that owners they spoke with wanted faster laps times with a Z NISMO, and the fastest lap time came from the automatic. That’s an impressive excuse!Note the STUDENT DRIVER sticker, promoting Sung Kang’s movie.Toyota CenturyToyota’s Century was completely redesigned for 1997, and maintained its luxury cool all the way to 2017.Subaru BRZThis one has extensive performance modifications for its duty as a Motul show car. Datsun 280ZXThe Nissan S130 was built from 1978 until 1983 and sold here as the Datsun 280ZX. It represented the first time they added the “...by Nissan” subscript to a Datsun. The 280ZX was also Motor Trend’s import car of the year for 1979. Acura NSXThe NSX was a revolutionary car when we first saw it in 1989. It showed that Japanese manufacturers could compete with the best of Europe when it came to supercars. The first-gen NSX, shown here, was made from 1990 to 2006. Datsun ZNote the Fairlady Z badging on the quarter panel, the name the car carried in its home market of Japan. Yamaha MotorcycleI scrolled through all years of Yamaha motorcycles and couldn't find this one.1988 Toyota SoarerThis is a rare sight on US streets. In 1988, the Soarer Z20 was given a facelift, with the new grille you see here and new rear taillights. The interior also got minor changes to the climate control and dash.Datsun Z1971 East African Safari Rally Tribute CarThe 1971 East African Safari Rally is widely remembered for the success of the Datsun 240Z, examples of which took 1st, 2nd, and 7th place. Nissan GT-RThis one looks like it makes a lot of power and torque.1968 Datsun 510The Datsun 510 was only made from 1968-1973 yet it became a legend. The simple, boxy compact car was renowned for its lightweight, nimble rear-wheel-drive handling and motorsport success. Originally designed to compete with the BMW 1600, it cemented Nissan’s reputation in the US. Datsun Z, Datsun 510Nissan SilviaThis one sports a wide-body kit, among other modifications. Datsun ZYou can feel the torque from here!Datsun ZDatsun ZGreen and black? Grey and black? Green and green?Acura NSX Senna Tribute CarThere’s an Ayrton Senna signature on the rocker panel, along with a GAS sticker, for Galpin Auto Sports, a local dealership’s tuner shop. When the owner of this NSX took his car to Galpin Auto Sports, they came up with this Senna-inspired wrap, according to honda-tech.com. They had to pull off some of the bodywork to do the wrap properly. The red and white livery comes from Senna’s stint driving McLaren F1 cars with Honda engines, which were sponsored by Marlboro. Senna drove the MP4/4 McLaren throughout one of the most dominant performances of one of F1’s most dominant cars. In 1988, powered by a 1.5-liter Honda turbo V6, McLaren took all but one pole position. Senna took the drivers’ championship and McLaren the constructors’ trophy. To add insult to injury, Senna and his teammate, Alain Prost, both ran 1 minute 27-second laps at the San Marino Grand Prix while the rest of the field couldn’t get under 1:30. Toyota SupraThe fifth-generation Supra was produced starting in March 2019. The model is slated to end this year. Toyota CenturyMitsubishi Pajero EvolutionThe Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution is the definitive two-door rally SUV. Built in the 1990s as a homologation special to dominate the Dakar Rally, it featured a wide-body kit, a 3.5-liter V6 engine, and advanced off-road suspension. Today, the Ralliart brand is used for rally-inspired trims.
