Image: IonnaThe deal comprises two key components: first, Ionna will take over the operation of Circle K’s existing US charging portfolio and swiftly upgrade and modernise approximately 85 charging stations. Second, Ionna will drive the installation of new charging stations at high-traffic Circle K locations that currently lack chargers. The new charging stations will offer power outputs of up to 400 kW and will include both NACS and CCS charging points. The high-speed charging network, founded by several car manufacturers, aims to ‘build 30,000 high-power charging bays by 2030.’However, the announcement regarding the Circle K partnership only specifies the number of sites—Ionna has not disclosed how many charging points it plans to install at these locations. The partnership’s strategic goal is to expand from the current 85 sites in Circle K’s US charging network to over 350 sites equipped with high-speed charging stations. These will no longer be operated by Circle K but by Ionna. The first ‘Rechargeries @ Circle K’ sites are expected to begin operations by the end of 2026, with further expansion planned for 2027. Ionna refers to its own sites as Rechargeries. The first opened last year, and there are now over 100 sites in operation. However, even 350 sites represent only a small fraction of Circle K’s US network, which includes a total of 7,300 locations across the United States. According to Ionna’s press release, Circle K ‘is known for value, quality products and fast, friendly service at well‑maintained sites with modern stores and forecourts.’ In the future, more electric vehicle drivers are expected to benefit from its range of snacks, fresh ready meals, beverages, and everyday essentials.“We are honoured that Circle K has recognised IONNA as a leader in the industry and entrusted us to serve their customers with the same care and commitment to excellence that they show now,” said Aaron Wolff, COO of Ionna. “Circle K’s scale, customer focus, and quality of location make them an ideal partner as we rapidly expand high-power charging where drivers already want to stop.”“At Circle K, our ambition is to make EV charging as easy and convenient as possible for our customers,” said Håkon Stiksrud, VP of Global eMobility at Circle K. “Partnering with Ionna enables us to scale high-power charging quickly at locations drivers already trust—combining fast, reliable charging with a great food and beverage experience. This partnership is an important step in preparing for the future, delivering not just charging, but a complete retail experience that supports our customers on the go.”prnewswire.com
