IONNA recently partnered with Circle K to construct 265 new fast charging stations at Circle K retail outlets. Circle K owns and operates one of the large convenience store chains in the US. Additionally, the existing EV chargers at 85 Circle K locations will be upgraded to IONNA fast chargers. IONNA is an EV fast charging network backed by some of the largest automakers in the world such as Toyota, BMW, GM, Hyundai, Kia, and Honda, etc. “At Circle K, our ambition is to make EV charging as easy and convenient as possible for our customers. Partnering with IONNA enables us to scale high-power charging quickly at locations drivers already trust—combining fast, reliable charging with a great food and beverage experience. This partnership is an important step in preparing for the future, delivering not just charging, but a complete retail experience that supports our customers on the go,” said Håkon Stiksrud, VP of Global eMobility at Circle K. IONNA charging hubs are known for their fast chargers and amenities for EV drivers. They typically have NACS and CCS chargers to cover a wide range of electric vehicles. The YouTube channel State of Charge noted how fast IONNA has been installing new fast chargers. There has been a growing trend recently to install more public EV chargers at retail outlets such as Walmart, Sheetz, Love’s Travel Stops, Casey’s, Wawa, Shoprite, Kroger, and Circle K. These are all mainstream retail businesses where Americans shop every day. If there is a signal that electric vehicles are becoming more accepted it might be all the new chargers being installed at these businesses so customers can charge and shop at the same time. EV drivers who charge there who did not first intend to shop may do so while they wait for their charges. EV drivers tend to have some money so drawing more to retail outlets may wind up being an effective business strategy. IONNA has been expanding at an impressive speed. “IONNA recently published some intriguing data points about its growth. One is that it now has nearly 1,000 EV charging bays across the US. Another is the IONNA charging network has over 100 EV charging sites now operating. IONNA is not stopping there, though. Far from it. More than 4,700 bays are now contracted nationwide, with nearly 1,500 in construction or beyond.” With thousands of new public chargers being installed or planned to be installed, there should be less range anxiety. Electric vehicles don’t need 700 miles of range if there are public EV chargers installed at convenient locations and if there are enough of them. The significant expansion of US EV charging has been happening despite the activities of a President and various Republicans who oppose electric vehicles and clean energy.
