Cooling the Lamborghini Revuelto SV Wasn't EasyLamborghiniThe Lamborghini Revuelto SV has arrived, complete with some truly monstrous performance. But keeping the V-12 supercar at its optimal operating temperatures during development was a challenging task, according to Revuelto product line director Alessandro Farmerschi.If you thought the standard Revuelto's 1001-horsepower peak was dizzying, the Revuelto SV ups that figure to 1050, thanks to a larger 7.3 kWh battery pack. The increased power figures account for a rapid 2.4-second claimed run from 0 to 62 miles per hour, and a reported 0-124 mph run of 6.7 seconds. Along with this increase in speed came a focus on aerodynamics, replacing the standard car's active wing with a fixed carbon fiber piece and adding new side air inlets. However, optimizing the airflow over the Revuelto SV added more issues for Lamborghini's engineers.Lamborghini"There is a moment where you have the first prototypes, and you drive the car on the racetrack, and you start understanding and feeling what's going on. Then you say, '[the] packaging is okay, but the cooling system doesn't cool down as expected.' At a certain point, you have a car that goes into de-rating [cutting power] because it's too hot," Farmerschi said to Road & Track. "And so you need to start to work on the aerodynamics. I change the position of the radiator, and then I can no longer use the fender. Then I need to change the fender. You start putting together all the elements, until the point where you achieve what you want. It's quite a tricky process."AdvertisementAdvertisementTrouble was, the starting point was so good, engineers didn't have much wiggle room with the Super Veloce version's needed tweaks. "The tricky part is that the Revuelto is already such a high-performing car that you really have to put all the things in line and connect the dots to the point that there is stability and repetition," Farmerschi said. "In terms of performance, it needs to be repeatable."LamborghiniConsistent performance is key for the Lamborghini customer, Farmerschi explained, and the Italian automaker wants the Revuelto SV's whopping performance numbers to be repeatable, day in and day out. As a result, Lamborghini put the Revuelto SV through its paces in extreme heat and extreme cold alike.The focus on dissipating heat extends to the Revuelto SV's new CCM-R Plus braking system, as well. The Brembo-derived system uses long strands of carbon fiber, which are pressed together for a more even rotor surface. The circular construction of the carbon rotors allows for higher and more stable friction without any pre-bedding required.Finally, the Revuelto SV takes some of its performance cues from its Urus Performante SE sibling. Lamborghini has fitted the Revuelto SV with a 6D sensor, which Farmerschi said is exclusive to the SV, that relies on a three-axis accelerometer to measure roll, pitch, and yaw.
