A man visits AutoZone in the freezing cold and attempts to get a worker to test his car battery. The worker isn’t having it. TikTok creator Kam (@iam._.kam) posted what is clearly a satirical skit designed to demonstrate a dynamic between AutoZone workers and clientele on Dec. 28. The skit starts with the person filming coming into the AutoZone, acknowledging the frigid conditions outside. “Oh, it’s cold out there,” the cameraman says before greeting the worker behind the register. The AutoZone Car Battery Test Skit “This morning, I had to jump my battery,” he explains. “I was wondering if you could go put the cables on, test it, and go ahead and take mine out and put a new one in there.” It’s unclear what reaction the customer expected, but the worker is clearly not interested in playing along. “It’s 12 degrees outside, bro,” he says. The customer protests, “It’s under warranty. I called up here. I called the other AutoZone, and they said you could do it.” The worker is unfazed. “Go to the other AutoZone, bro,” he says. Viewers React To The AutoZone Skit In the comments section, AutoZone workers and customers weighed in on what the skit says about the dynamic between AutoZone workers and customers. “I have a limit,” said one employee. “I don’t know about y’all, but I am not changing a battery or windshield wipers when it’s below 32 degrees.” “When I worked there I said, ‘It’s too cold, it’s not happening,’ and he asked for my manager,” a second person wrote. “I walked in the back [and] took off my jacket. I’ll never work there again.” “I would’ve been happy to do it,” said another person. “Who cares if the dude’s a grown man? It’s part of my job to replace them.” Another employee said, “See as the manager on shift, I ask my [employees] if they want to. If not, I’ll do it. I don’t make them do anything they don’t want to. Obviously, I won’t do it all the time, but still the job is a team effort, not forcing someone to do everything.” Do AutoZone Employees Have To Help Replace Your Battery? While many AutoZone locations will assist with this kind of job, not every employee is a mechanic, and many are not. So, installation assistance is not required, and most of the time, the worker is completely within their rights to refuse. This is especially true if the job is particularly complicated or the weather is bad. The company does advertise free battery testing, charging, and recycling. However, it also notes that some restrictions apply. One Reddit user suggested, “The key here is to ask nicely. If you call your local AutoZone and speak with someone and explain your needs and/or lack of tools, they can absolutely install this for you. Provided there’s not a customer line out the door or the store is shorthanded.” Motor1 contacted Kam via TikTok comment and direct message for comment.
