'I’ll Call You Back:' Rig Blows Past Weight Station at 102 mph. Then a State Trooper Calls

A truck driver's need for speed went viral after his boss's voicemail meltdown soundtracked one of the funniest workplace TikToks last week.

Countryboi.lifestyle (@countryboi.lifestyle) shared a video that has racked up 8.5 million views, featuring footage of a semi-trailer truck rocketing down a rural highway—followed by an epic voicemail from "Boss Man Tommy" that takes viewers through the arc of rage, disbelief, and grudging relief.

The Boss's Epic Meltdown

The video opens with a wide tracking shot of the semi barreling down what appears to be a rural highway, with text overlay reading, "I'll call you back my boss calling." What follows is an automated transcript of Tommy's voicemail with audio of the message playing over the footage in the phone's messaging app.

Tommy's voicemail is a masterclass in workplace fury mixed with dark humor. "102 miles per hour! Are you kidding me? That's, I, uh, [expletive], 102! I just got a phone call from state police, saying that we had a truck bypass the scale at 102!" he begins, his disbelief palpable even through the phone recording.

The boss's anger builds as he continues: "Are you kidding me? Are you trying to get my truck impounded? 102? You want to know what saved your [expletive]? You want to know what kept him from [expletive] chasing you? You stupid [expletive]!"

Then comes the plot twist that elevated this from a standard workplace scolding to viral gold: "The trooper had to take a [expletive] so he couldn't be bothered to chase you. But he called me and said he clocked you at 102."

The Unlikely Save

The revelation that only nature's call prevented a high-speed chase became the video's most talked-about moment. Tommy's mix of fury and disbelief at his driver's luck resonated with viewers who could relate to both sides of the conversation.

Viral bits from across the social media landscape

Our team of experts tracks what's trending so you don't have to—from viral videos to online debates that have everyone talking.

"I'm gonna beat your [expletive]! Call me back. You better [expletive] call me back," Tommy continues before apparently catching himself and reconsidering. "Know what? Don't call me back. Give me like six hours to calm down, then call me back."

That final line—asking for time to "calm down"—became a particular favorite among commenters who appreciated Tommy's self-awareness about his anger level.

The Dangers of High-Speed Trucking

While the voicemail provided entertainment, several commenters were quick to point out the serious safety implications of a semi-trailer traveling at such speeds. Commercial trucks typically weigh 80,000 pounds when fully loaded, making them exponentially more dangerous at high speeds than passenger vehicles.

Even unloaded, a truck moving at 102 mph could take up to 800 feet to stop according to TruckingTruth, and any additional weight in the truck's cargo could extend that distance even further. Furthermore, speed exponentially increases the kinetic energy of a moving vehicle according to HowStuffWorks, making any impact far more destructive.

The Utah Department of Transportation points out that the brakes of large semi trucks are mechanically different to the brakes on cars, and their stopping power is far less instantaneous.

And trucks feature disproportionately in speed-related accidents. In 2022 alone, according to the National Highway Transport Safety Administration, of the roughly 12,000 fatal accidents in which speed was a contributing factor, approximately one in five involved large trucks.

In Louisiana, where Countryboi.lifestyle’s bio says he’s based, traveling that far in excess of the speed limit opens drivers to the more serious charge of reckless operation of a vehicle.

"Y'all laughing in the comments, but this is actually how so many people lose their life. This is insanely dangerous and reckless. Especially in a big rig like that," one commenter wrote.

Another user echoed this concern: "Just imagine a big rig crashing into other vehicles at 102 mph."

Community Response and Meme Culture

Despite the serious safety concerns, the video's comment section exploded with references to a recent TikTok meme featuring an older man saying "Lock em up" to someone he believed was fishing illegally. The top comment, with over 60,000 likes, simply featured a photo referencing this meme.

"LOCK EM UPPPP," wrote one user, while another added, "Lmaooo shhhidddd that's exactly where bro was going. Straight to jail."

The intergenerational humor between the grumpy older boss and the reckless younger employee struck a chord with viewers. "That's not your boss, that's your DAD," joked one commenter, while another dubbed him "Mr Boss Dad."

The Creator's Response

Countryboi.lifestyle, whose bio identifies him as being from Louisiana and whose other content shows rural lifestyle and trucking work, seemed to take the viral attention in stride. His simple caption "Sorry Mr. Boss man" with a grimacing emoji suggests he knew he'd messed up.

In the comments, he referred to Tommy as "an awesome boss" and mentioned that additional parts of the story were available on his page. When asked about the relationship dynamic, he clarified: "at work I just call him boss."

Workplace Dynamics in the Trucking Industry

The video highlights the unique challenges of managing truck drivers who often work independently on long hauls. Tommy's voicemail reveals several concerning aspects: the driver bypassed a weigh station (a federal requirement for commercial vehicles), exceeded speed limits by a dangerous margin, and put the company's operating license at risk.

"He could make him lose his truck and company…. I would've fired him playing with my reputation like that," one commenter noted, highlighting how individual driver actions can jeopardize entire operations.

Others appreciated Tommy's measured response despite his anger. "The way he said, ‘Call me back,’ then told him to give him a few hours to calm down," one user observed, while another praised it as "emotional intelligence."

The Unlikely Hero Trooper

Perhaps the most discussed aspect was the state trooper's bathroom break that inadvertently saved the driver from a high-speed pursuit. "Trooper probably called him while [expletive]," joked one commenter.

This detail transformed what could have been a dangerous chase scene into an almost comical near-miss, though it also raised questions about the randomness of traffic enforcement and how many similar incidents go unnoticed.

Though entertaining, the video also offers a cautionary tale, demonstrating how quickly workplace situations can spiral viral and how the trucking industry's safety culture depends on individual responsibility. While Tommy's colorful voicemail provided millions with laughs, the underlying message about professional accountability and public safety remains serious.
