That is an absolutely unbelievable statement on its own, but Chevrolet also manages to offer a luxurious mid-engine experience for owners too. The updated 2027 'Vette is now the only way to do it, too, and moreover, it is now the cheapest way to crack 200 in the new car market. The 2027 Corvette does so with a new generation of its small-block V8, but you can't spend more money to go more faster. Instead, adding options to the Corvette only makes it slower (of inly marginally) by way of adding downforce. That downforce is also added drag, which lowers other 'Vettes' top speeds. In order to end up with the most affordable, reasonable Corvette capable of 200, we scrolled throgh Chevy's configurator.AdvertisementAdvertisementTwo trims are offered, a coupe at $73,495 MSRP or a convertible, at $80,495. Save yourself the money and opt for the coupe, of course.Three trims are offered for the Corvette coupe: 1, 2, and 3LT. Unsurprisingly, the 2LT trim, at $80,595 strikes the best balance of features and pricing, and for about the same money as the convertible version, you can have a nicely-equipped coupe with a removable roof panel. Same-same.The Corvette's 2LT is the best value for moneyChevrolet2LT models add a few key features to the Corvette formula. Namely, you'll get memory seats, which any car north of $70k ought to have. Safety features include blind-spot monitorying and rear cross-traffic alert, while an updated Bose sound system rounds out the highlights. As for the engine, that now stays the same for the base Corvette. The naturally-aspirated 6.7-liter LS6 engine makes 535 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque. The added power is responsible for the Corvette's new top speed.AdvertisementAdvertisementMike Kociba, Chevy's small-block assistant chief engineer, said that the new top speed "shows the strength of the LS6, an engine that we set out to create a unique place in the Corvette lineup." The new Stingray is also capable of doing 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds, making it one of the fastest ways to 60 mph outside of purely electric vehicles.More impressively, the base Corvette is also the only way to the 200 mph mark without spending some serious coin on the ZR1 or the even more insane ZR1X.2026 Corvette ZR1X in Sebring OrangeChevroletA few small concessions have to be made to get a 200 mile-per-hour Corvette. The largest is the Z51 package. It adds aero like a splitter and rear spoiler. Unfortunately (and very ironically) it means no bigger brakes. Or updated suspension, or better tires, or an e-LSD. All of these could add to the 200 mph experience, frankly, but what kills it all is the shorter final drive ratio. The 'Vette may have the horsepower to outdo its added drag otherwise.ChevroletWe'd skip nearly everything else as well. A litany of cosmetic options awaits in the configurator, but to keep things budget we'd simply pick a fun paint shade and call it done. Do as we did, and your 200 mph sports car should come out to $81,590 including destination. This story was originally published by Autoblog on Jul 28, 2026, where it first appeared in the Features section.
