The new Honda Prelude has been previewed again, this time at Sepang, where some minor driving activities for it was also scheduled. The preview, coming after the static showcase of a Crystal Black Pearl example last month, offers a view of the two other exterior colours that will be available for the car here, these being a Rallye Red hero shade and Winter Frost Pearl. The event also finally provided a look at the interior of the 2+2 coupé, which is expected to make its official Malaysian debut sometime next month, as scheduled. Pricing, or for that matter, even a ballpark figure, has still not been indicated, with Honda Malaysia keeping that particular card close to its chest. A recap of what to expect from the BF1. Measuring in at 4,522 mm long, 1,880 mm wide and 1,355 mm tall, with a 2,605 mm wheelbase, the Prelude shares much of the FL5 Civic Type R’s underpinnings and chassis components, such as the dual-axis strut front suspension and adaptive dampers, but eschews the turbo petrol and manual gearbox route for a hybrid system similar to the one found in the Civic e:HEV and CR-V e:HEV, in this case an Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) powertrain. The system combines the workings of an electric motor and petrol engine, with the latter being a 2.0 litre naturally-aspirated inline-four petrol engine running on an Atkinson cycle. Output from the mill is identical to the unit on the Civic e:HEV, which is 141 PS (139 hp or 104 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 182 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. The LFC-H4 engine acts primarily as a generator for a battery (likely the same 72-cell, 1.05 kWh capacity unit found on the hybrid Civic), which provides juice for a front traction motor offering 184 PS (181 hp or 135 kW) and 315 Nm. When needed, the engine can be clutched in to directly drive the wheels, with the total system output being 203 PS (200 hp or 149 kW). The Prelude, which rides on 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped with 235/40 profile tyres, features four-piston Brembo brake calipers from the Type R, with the calipers finished in Prelude Blue. The car will of course be the first Honda product in Malaysia to feature the S+ Shift, which integrates with Active Sound Control to simulate gear shifts of an eight-speed transmission unit. Inside, the cabin features an overall presentation similar to the Civic, although the dashboard configuration has been altered with the use of hexagonal air vents sans a full-width mesh, and there’s also a unique flat-bottomed three-spoke steering wheel with a 12 o’clock marker. The Prelude also features bucket seats with distinctive high shoulders. Elsewhere, the reworked centre console is home to a push-button gear selector instead of a gear lever, and this is flanked by a switch for the electronic parking brake as well as the drive mode selector (Comfort, GT, Sport and Individual) and a large S+ Shift button on the left. In terms of equipment, the Prelude comes with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, a wireless phone charger, an eight-speaker Bose sound system and a full Honda Sensing suite. The interior is finished in a blue and white theme, across all three exterior colour choices. GALLERY: BF1 Honda Prelude preview, Sepang Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
