The Honda Insight is back, and after three generations of offering the carmaker’s latest hybrid technology, this latest model is now a fully-electric vehicle. Not only that, but it’s also an SUV for the first time. It will be launched in Japan within the next three months, with bookings opening March 19. However, those with a good memory will remember that this is not the first time we’ve seen this design, as it was introduced in China in 2024 as the e:NS2, part of a joint venture with Dongfeng. As such, the Insight will likely share that car’s mechanicals, including a single front motor making 150 kW (204 PS) and 310 Nm of torque – the same as a BYD Atto 3, in other words – and the e:N1‘s 68.8 kWh NMC battery offering a range of 545 km on China’s lenient CLTC cycle. The Japanese press release claims a figure of over 500 km on the more stringent WLTP cycle, so perhaps the Insight will receive a bigger battery. The Insight’s styling is certainly distinctive, with arrow-shaped LED daytime running lights joined together by a full-width light bar to form a “H” graphic, plus corresponding taillights, flush pop-out front door handles, hidden rear handles and an almost fastback-like roofline. A new Aqua Topaz Metallic II, an evolution of the e:N1’s hero colour, is said to combine the transparency of water with the sparkle of the namesake gemstone. Inside the Insight, you’ll find an almost un-Honda tech-forward dashboard housing a 9.4-inch slimline instrument display, a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen running on the latest Honda Connect 4.0 interface, and an 11.5-inch head-up display. The company says this is the first Honda in Japan to offer an air fragrancing system and an intelligent heating function that coordinates the central, seat and steering wheel heaters. This makes the system quieter, more efficient and less dehumidifying than before, it is claimed. With the Insight offered in a right-hand-drive market, it’s likely only a matter of time before it gets exported to more regions. This perhaps includes Malaysia, where the also previously China-only e:N1 has been on sale since May 2025 – albeit not with much success.
