Specifically, certain models with the company's 1.5-liter turbo and 2.0-liter hybrid engines have experienced premature head gasket failures. This has now led to the carmaker announcing an extended head gasket warranty for a large number of models, including the Civic and CR-V. This is not a recall, though, and some owners could face continued troubles as their extended warranties will only run until May next year.Related: 7 Engines From Major Automakers Raising Red Flags In 2026Honda Warranty Extension 2025 Honda CR-VHondaThe warranty extension for the head gasket will now run up to 10 years or 150,000 miles for most affected vehicles. That's significantly better coverage than Honda's usual five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty or the six-year/70,000-mile warranty applicable to Acura vehicles, as per Car Complaints.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe warranty extension comes after multiple Honda and Acura vehicles suffered original head gasket failures. If this happens, vehicles can experience leaking coolant, overheating, and misfires. They may also store diagnostic trouble codes from P0300 to P0304.The warranty extension applies to the following vehicles:2018-2022 Honda Accord 1.5T (CVT) (Bulletin 26-003)2018-2022 Honda Accord 1.5T (M/T) (Bulletin 26-004)2023-2026 Honda Accord Bulletin (Bulletin 26-005)2018-2022 Honda Accord Hybrid (Bulletin 26-006)2023-2026 Honda Accord Hybrid (Bulletin 26-007)2016-2021 Honda Civic 1.5T (CVT) (Bulletin 26-008)2016-2021 Honda Civic 1.5T (M/T), 2017-20 Civic Si (Bulletin 26-009)2022-2026 Honda Civic 1.5T (M/T) & Civic Si (Bulletin 26-010)2022-2024 Honda Civic 1.5T (CVT) (Bulletin 26-011)2025-2026 Honda Civic 2.0 (CVT) (Bulletin 26-012)2025-2026 Honda Civic Hybrid (Bulletin 26-013)2017-2022 Honda CR-V 1.5T (Bulletin 26-016)2023-2026 Honda CR-V 1.5T (Bulletin 26-017)2020-2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid (Bulletin 26-018)2023-2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid (Bulletin 26-019)2016-2017 Honda Civic 1.5T (CVT) (Bulletin 26-099) Expires May 31, 20272016-2017 Honda Civic 1.5T (M/T), 2017 Civic Si (Bulletin 26-097) Expires May 31, 20272017 Honda CR-V 1.5T (Bulletin 26-098) Expires May 31, 20272025-2026 Acura ADX (Bulletin 26-001)2023-2026 Acura Integra (CVT) (Bulletin 26-002)2023-2026 Acura Integra (M/T) (Bulletin 26-003)For older vehicles that are not eligible for the warranty extension, the automaker will provide a six-month grace period from the date of owner notification. Car Complaints show that the typical repair cost is $2,890 at an average mileage of 85,000 miles for the 2017 Honda CR-V. However, we found several instances of repair bills exceeding $5,000. One owner of another 2017 CR-V in Massachusetts was quoted between $8,000 and $10,000 to replace the head gasket and turbo charge unit. Another was quoted $6,000 to repair a CR-V with under 60,000 miles.Despite the number of head gasket failures, a recall has not been issued. Customers with older Hondas or Acuras may see the extended warranty expire within the next few months, leaving them at a higher risk of out-of-pocket costs should the head gasket fail.Honda or Acura owners with one of these cars are advised to regularly check coolant levels, never ignore an overheating warning, and to change the oil at or before the recommended interval. Owners can contact Honda's customer service on 888-234-2138 for more information about the warranty extension.Autoblog's Take2026 Honda Civic Hatchback HybridKristen Brown/AutoblogA mechanical failure of this nature could significantly tarnish Honda's otherwise strong reliability reputation. There are potentially hundreds of thousands of Honda/Acura models with affected engines, although the true number is unknown unless the automaker issues a recall. AdvertisementAdvertisementHonda's warranty extension is welcome, but a recall may be necessary at some point, since many owners will potentially not be covered by the extended warranty if the gaskets continue failing. It's also unclear if replacement gaskets address the underlying cause. It took Kia and Hyundai years to deal with its Theta II engine's connecting rod bearing failures and the resulting reputational damage, which is the risk Honda faces.Related: Owners Furious as Honda Faces New Lawsuit for Engine TroubleThis story was originally published by Autoblog on Aug 31, 2026, where it first appeared in the News section.
