Honda Really Wants You To Get Hyped For Its New V3R E-Compressor. Are You?RideApartinfo@rideapart.com (Janaki Jitchotvisut)Mon, September 14, 2026 at 11:56 AM UTCAdd us on GoogleAScjzCO4TWcTeam Red just launched a new behind-the-scenes docuseries on the development of the V3R E-Compressor powerplant, and you can follow along. It's September 2026, and Honda's been working steadily on its V3R 900 E-Compressor Prototype for some time now. Thus far, the company has revealed that it's a water-cooled 75-degree V3 configuration, with the entire point of the supercharger e-compressor being to dial in the power when and where the rider wants it, regardless of engine speed. Honda refers to the guiding principle for this project as "non-rail roller coaster," and says it's targeting performance from this 900cc triple to rival that of a traditional 1,200cc engine. Only, of course, the 900's comparatively compact size (not to mention this specific configuration) should confer inherent packaging and handling advantages. Clearly, Honda Europe's release of the first part of this new docuseries about the development of the V3R is meant to get everyone excited about the project. And equally clearly, the timing is no coincidence; remember, EICMA is just around the corner, and is currently scheduled to take place in Milan from November 5 through 8, 2026.Long Development RoadListen to Honda's Electric Supercharged V3 Motorcycle Engine For the First TimeThere's a Ridable Prototype Of Honda's Electric Turbocharged V3 Motorcycle ConceptAdvertisementAdvertisementWhile we don't know precisely what Honda plans to show at the biggest international motorcycle event of the year, it was at EICMA 2025 that Honda first revealed the V3R Prototype to the world. And before that, it was at EICMA 2024 that Honda brought its V3R engine prototype (not the full motorcycle prototype; not yet, anyway) to show and tell about. So, will 2026 be the year when Honda shows off more than just a V3R prototype of some kind? Will this be when we finally get to set eyes on a production version, or at least a pre-production (but post-prototype) version? That's not clear yet, but what is clear is that you don't continue drawing attention to a project if you're not planning to go through with it. The fact that Honda is releasing this docuseries when it is seems to indicate more than just a steady flow of forward momentum. And for anyone who's criticized Honda for playing it a little safer than they'd like to see in recent years, it may also potentially represent a return to the boundary-pushing, relentless-pursuit-of-excellence form that Honda history fans might find lacking in the present. Crazy stuff like the NR oval-piston project, which mainly existed to prove that Honda could squeeze two-stroke levels of performance out of a four-stroke engine.Obviously, if you're a company, you can't do stuff like that all the time; after all, you do need to pay the bills. But for many fans, it's when Honda engineers are able to pursue their wild technological passions that weird, wonderful, and boundary-pushing things happen. And if you haven't guessed already, we are totally here for it.AdvertisementAdvertisementAre you already excited about how Honda's V3R 900 project is developing?
