2027 Honda Civic Type R Adds Performance, Heated SeatsHondaThe 2027 Honda Civic Type R gets hard-to-spot visual changes, improved cooling, more downforce over the front wheels, and a quicker rev-match system, among other tweaks.Perhaps of more practical interest for buyers is that the updated Civic Type R now comes with heated front seats, which were previously limited to the Acura Integra Type S.The changes come along with a slight price increase, with the 2027 Type R starting at $49,990 when it starts arriving at dealers later this month. One change in particular for the 2027 Honda Civic Type R is going to make the Acura Integra Type S a much harder sell. While Honda's magnificent hot hatch is getting a host of updates, including some subtle visual changes, better cooling, improved downforce, and quicker rev matching, there's one change in particular we care about. For the first time since the FL5-generation CTR launched, the Honda comes with heated buckets.HondaAside from toasting our buns to a perfect golden brown, the Type R should be slightly better to drive from 2027. Honda tweaked the front fascia design to improve cooling, and while we believe Honda enlarged the grille, our eyes struggle to see the visual changes. Still, the new look apparently shoves more air into the engine, while a deeper front splitter pushes the front axle harder into the ground and reduces turbulence.Tweaks to the CTR's aggressive +R mode are meant to improve road following, reduce bouncing, and cut back on impact harshness to supply more stability and improve control. Other changes include the addition of a yoke spring to the brake pedal, which now provides a more direct feel, and a quicker engine response from the rev-match system to provide smoother downshifts. If vanity adjustments matter to you, Honda is also adding a new Meteorite Gray Metallic option, while the engine cover gets a redesign reminiscent of engines in early-generation Type Rs.HondaThe rest of the changes to the Type R are focused on the cabin, with Honda updating the front-seat perforation to reduce sliding, as well as adding suede to the instrument panel and upper front door panels. The door handles and, more important, the aluminum shift knob are now finished in a darker gray color. The climate control and air vent knobs have been painted black to give the cabin a more upscale look, and the Type R now comes standard with an auto-dimming rearview mirror.Unfortunately, the changes have caused the price of the Civic Type R to rise slightly. The 2027 model will start at $49,990, up from $48,690 last year. The updated hot hatch will start arriving at dealerships later this month and now serve as an even more compelling option over the Acura Integra Type S.➡️ Skip the lot.
