Rugged by DemandHonda didn't wait for a normal mid-cycle refresh to update the Passport TrailSport for the 2027 model year with improved off-road capabilities, which isn't surprising given that the off-road-focused TrailSport trims accounted for more than 80% of the nameplate's sales as of mid-2026. But those changes also raise prices, and as expected, the TrailSport trims have larger increases than the regular trim. The 2027 Passport TrailSport now starts at $49,995 (excluding destination charges), up $1,345 from the outgoing model. In comparison, the entry-level Passport RTL only adds $245 to its MSRP, bringing it to $45,195. The flagship TrailSport Elite starts at $53,695, which is $1,045 more than the MY2026 version.HondaHigher in Every SenseLooking at the pricing differences, the mid-spec Passport TrailSport has the highest price hike among the three core versions, which makes sense considering the upgrades for the 2027 model year.About 70% of the major suspension components in the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite were redesigned, increasing ground clearance from 8.27 inches to 9.65 inches. That allows the vehicle to exceed other off-road competitors such as the Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road and Subaru Outback Wilderness in ground clearance.Additionally, the off-road trims receive improved breakover, approach, and departure angles, which, in other words, allow them to tackle steeper and more uneven terrain without scraping their undersides or bumpers. Speaking of which, they will come with redesigned front and rear fender flares and a pair of amber LED hood scoop lights. The higher price increase for the mid-spec Passport TrailSport comes as it gains a heated steering wheel and TrailWatch, a camera system that provides four views, including a 360-degree view, which is particularly useful when off-roading. Both features were previously exclusive to the TrailSport Elite. The TrailSport Blackout, however, sees an even larger $1,645 increase and adds cosmetic upgrades like 18-inch rugged black alloy wheels, black Honda badges, and redesigned black front and rear skid garnishes.HondaHonda Gets the MessageIt is worth noting that despite the off-road upgrades, the Passport is still a unibody crossover, as opposed to the body-on-frame construction used by models like the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco. Still, that can be a good thing, especially for those who want more refined on-road manners, which can make it more suitable for family use.The upgrades are essentially a reflection of Honda responding quickly to what buyers are actually choosing. The Japanese marque said that the 2027 Passport is now arriving at dealerships, with the vehicles and their 3.5-liter V6 engine built at its plant in Lincoln, Alabama. No hybrid powertrain is offered yet.Honda
