A mechanic reveals what exactly haunts him every single time while working on Ford vehicles, and he’s not alone. In a TikTok, mechanic @evtguy showcases the scenario that drives him mad. The TikTok went viral, generating over 118,600 views as of this writing. In the brief TikTok, the famous Ford chime is playing loudly. “The chime that haunts me,” the mechanic captioned the post. The mechanic is pondering his life decisions while trying to diagnose the issue with the Ford. With his laptop open in the front seat, the mechanic readjusts his hat and shakes his head as the chime goes off. The mechanic told Motor1, “The most frustrating thing is when using Ford's IDS/FDRS program it usually takes an eternity to load so you're just sitting there listening to the loud [expletive] chime.” Who knew a simple sound could stir up so much emotion? The Ford Chime That Haunts Technicians This mechanic isn’t the only one haunted by the Ford chime. Other viewers went to the comments section to express the same sentiment. “The chime that’s in all my nightmares,” one TikTok commenter added. “Absolutely hate the ford chime,” another commented. “The chime that feeds my pay checks,” one joked. Other viewers offered some suggestions to get this chime turned off while working. “Pro tip - close the latch on the door, hope this helps while you wait for IDS/FDRS to load,” one suggested. “Close the doors latch with a screwdriver,” another shared. How Did Ford Make This Chime? While the producers of this chime probably didn’t intend to drive mechanics to go into a state of rage, they did create an iconic chime. Music enthusiasts are thoroughly impressed with the composition of the chime. “I’m sure you guys have heard the Ford car chime, why can’t I stop listening to it? It really gives a warm and relaxing feeling even though it’s less than a second… I loved it so much I even set it to my morning alarm,” one Reddit user shared. People have even created marathon videos with the Ford chime being played for 12 hours straight. However, not everyone feels this way, particularly Ford dealership technicians. The mechanic told Motor1, “The video speaks for itself and will resonate with a lot of Ford dealership techs.” So, how did Ford create this chime? Well, Ford has its own division using science and music theory to make sure the chime gets your attention. The Ford Vehicle Harmony Group creates the chimes to intuitively communicate with Ford drivers. The chime sound will go off to let drivers know that the lights were left on, a seat belt isn’t fastened, or a door was left open. With the constant pings and notifications from all devices and technology, it’s easy for sounds to get lost. So, Ford is constantly thinking about this and is sending harmonious sounds to grab your attention. “The right balance of frequency, volume, cadence and tone helps differentiate between high-importance alerts, such as a collision warning, and gentle reminders, such as the tick-tock of a turn-signal indicator. Ford vehicle sounds – there are about 30 that make up the pallet of audible chimes – are designed to have their own characteristics, each created based on the urgency of the message being conveyed,” a Ford engineer shared. It’s safe to say that the Ford Vehicle Harmony Group is succeeding in its job. While some despise the noise, others have it set to their morning alarm clock.
