Police Say Mustangs Raced Right in Front of ThemRocklin Police DepartmentThere are bad places to start a street race ... and then there's directly in front of a marked police car. A pair of Ford Mustang drivers in California allegedly discovered that distinction the hard way.According to the Rocklin Police Department, officers watched the pair race along Wildcat Boulevard, reaching speeds of roughly 75 miles per hour in a posted 45-mph zone. The department says its Traffic Unit was sitting nearby in a regular black-and-white patrol vehicle. Apparently, neither driver noticed.Photos released by police show officers dealing with the two Mustangs afterward, including what appears to be a fifth-generation car being loaded onto a flatbed. Police said citations were issued, parents were called, and at least one tow truck appears to have joined the party. However, another consequence might prove considerably more annoying: namely, DMV reexaminations.California gives law enforcement officers the ability to refer drivers to the Department of Motor Vehicles when their behavior raises questions about whether they can safely operate a vehicle. The DMV can ultimately take no action, impose restrictions or probation, suspend a license, or revoke it.AdvertisementAdvertisementRocklin Police didn't specify whether these drivers received regular or priority reexamination referrals, so we can't say exactly what awaits them. The department did, however, have considerably more fun with the incident than your average police social-media account. Its post is stuffed with Fast & Furious references, right down to Hector's three Honda Civics with Spoon engines, T66 turbos, NOS, and the famously nonsensical "Motec exhaust." Suffice it to say, if you're going to reenact The Fast and the Furious [Please don't. —Ed.], perhaps remember that the movie's street racers generally checked for cops first. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
