Ford Ranger Tremor Testing in Minimal CamoKGP Photography - Car and DriverFord is testing a new variant of the mid-size Ranger truck, and we think this previews the return of the Tremor nameplate to the lineup.The truck rides on BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 tires measuring 265/70R-17 and features rock rails with integrated side steps.We can also spot a fresh grille design, camouflage where the badges typically are, and a front skid plate.Ford is looking to expand the Ranger lineup with a new off-road trim. While the Ranger Raptor—with its 405-hp twin-turbo V-6 and Fox Live Valve dampers—already sits atop the lineup and the FX4 off-road package can be specced on the XL, XLT, and Lariat, Ford appears to have identified a middle-ground niche that still needs to be filled. Our spy photographer captured this Ranger prototype testing in Michigan, and we think this will be a new Ranger Tremor that will arrive for the 2027 model year.KGP Photography - Car and DriverThe previous-generation Ranger, which was replaced in the U.S. after the 2023 model year, offered a Tremor package starting in 2021. The package added all-terrain tires, new control arms, Fox dampers, an electronically locking rear differential, fixed metal side steps, and skid plates. The Tremor trim has since spread throughout Ford's lineup, appearing as an off-road grade on the Maverick, F-150, Explorer, and Expedition.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe Ranger Tremor looks like it will bridge the gap between FX4-equipped Rangers and the full-fledged Raptor off-roader. The spy photos reveal a unique front-end treatment, with the grille featuring a mesh design similar to that of the other existing Tremor models. The crossbar that is bisected by the Ford badge and the trim that connects the grille to the bumper are finished in black, and we can also spot a more robust-looking skid plate. The only camouflage appears on the side of the bed, the tailgate, and the front-fender trim, typically where badges and decals reside.Ford already offers a Ranger Tremor model in other parts of the world, and the version we will get could bring similar upgrades. This could include position-sensitive Bilstein dampers with remote reservoirs, a bit of extra ground clearance, wider front and rear tracks, and other suspension upgrades. The Tremor could also add the Trail Turn Assist feature, which brakes the inside wheel to reduce the turning radius, and the Trail Control system, a low-speed cruise control for when you're off the beaten path.Still, the spy photos reveal at least one major difference versus the Ranger Tremor sold elsewhere. In other markets, the truck rides on General Grabber AT3 tires measuring 265/70R-17. While the U.S.-bound model was testing on tires of the same size, the prototype instead features BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 rubber.The only other noticeable upgrade was a set of side steps integrated into rock rails along the side of the truck. We expect the Ranger Tremor to debut before the end of this year and likely go on sale at some point in 2028. It will likely be priced somewhere between the Lariat, which starts at $45,850 for 2026, and the $59,165 Raptor.➡️ Skip the lot.
