Besides the Toyota RAV4, the 2026 Honda CR-V is the best-selling vehicle in the United States that is not a pickup truck. Honda sold 403,768 units of its compact crossover, with the CR-V Hybrid making up just over half of those sales. In fact, if you want a fully-loaded CR-V, the top trims are all electrified hybrid models.Pricing for the base CR-V LX trim starts at $30,920, while the top Sport Touring Hybrid caps out at $42,550. That provides a healthy range for buyers who want affordable and practical transportation, but what if you crave a vehicle with more opulence? If you take that same budget and shop on the used market, there are plenty of excellent options available. We've chosen eight options that are much more luxurious than a brand-new CR-V, but can be purchased between $30,000 to $42,000. Genesis GV70 _34A8277Perhaps the prettiest car on our list, the Genesis GV70 is widely available on the used market, whether you want to keep the price below a CR-V LX or you can stretch to the budget of a Sport Touring Hybrid. Genesis introduced its compact luxury crossover for the 2022 model year, and a brand-new 2026 model is now available starting at $48,985 before destination. Thanks to depreciation, you can now find GV70 examples ranging from 2022 all the way up to a barely driven 2026 model year between $30,000 and $42,000. These cars are all fairly low mileage at this price, ranging from a few thousand up to around 28,000 miles. We love the GV70 for its unique South Korean styling and ultra-luxurious interior that punches well above its price point. Most examples are powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing a healthy 300 horsepower, which is 110 hp more than a base CR-V and 96 hp more than the CR-V hybrid. Buyers who like a bit more speed should try to find a 3.5T with the twin-turbo V6, which spits out 375 hp. It's not as common, but the Electrified GV70 is also available for as little as $30,000 with dual electric motors producing 429 hp (483 hp with overboost) and around 243 to 263 miles of range. Volvo XC60 2026 Volvo XC60 Plug-in Hybird (3)For fans of Swedish minimalism, the Volvo XC60 is a stellar choice. The second-generation model arrived for the 2018 model year, and pre-owned 2019 through 2025 models are readily available for the same budget as a new Honda CR-V. Depending on the trim, powertrain, and price, you can expect these cars to have anywhere between over 80,000 to under 1,000 miles on the odometer, so there is a wide variety to choose from. We love the XC60 for its clean design, minimal but high-quality interior with available wool seats, soft ride, and smooth powertrains. If you can, find an Inscription trim with massage seats and the Bowers & Wilkins audio system, as these upgrades turn the XC60 into a true luxury gem.Every XC60 sold in the US market uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a turbocharger, but pre-2021 T6 models also used a supercharger for a twincharged setup, while the T8 added an electric motor and battery to the mix, making it a plug-in hybrid. In 2022, the supercharger was dropped, but output from the T8 Recharge models was increased from 415 to 455 hp. One year later, the T5 and T6 models were replaced by a mild-hybrid B5, producing 250 hp. Lexus NX Hybrid 2025 Lexus NX 350h Exterior (4)All the vehicles on this list are more powerful or more premium than the Honda CR-V in one way or the other (or both), but only one can match it in efficiency: the Lexus NX Hybrid. Nearly every compact luxury crossover uses a plug-in hybrid powertrain, delivering an all-electric driving range, but at a higher price with efficiency that rarely matches up to conventional hybrids from Toyota and Lexus. The NX Hybrid is a unicorn in its class, pairing a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with a small electric motor to deliver 240 hp in the NX 350 hp variant. This version is only available with all-wheel-driving, using an e-axle to drive the rear wheels for maximum efficiency to achieve 39 MPG combined. That's two MPG more than the CR-V Hybrid with AWD, only one MPG lower than the FWD CR-V Hybrid.Buyers craving more power can opt for the NX 450h+, which includes a more powerful electric motor that increases total output to 304 hp. This model also gets a bigger battery, so it can travel 37 miles on electric power before engaging its gas engine. When the engine does kick on, the NX 450h+ still manages a stellar 36 MPG combined average. If you do a lot of driving and want to maximize your cost savings on fuel, the NX is the best option here. This price range will include NX examples from the first-generation, but we'd recommend filtering those out and only looking at the much-improved second-generation model built after the 2021 model year. Depending on the price and trim, you can expect to find cars with anywhere from 10,000 to 100,000 miles on the odometer. BMW X3 BMW X3 3/4 front viewThe CR-V is many things – comfortable, frugal, spacious – but it is not the Ultimate Driving Machine. For the same money, you could get a BMW X3, a crossover that's roughly the same size, but is far more entertaining to drive. This price range contains X3 examples ranging from 2019 all the way up to the 2025 model year, meaning you can actually get the current, fourth-generation of BMW's hot-selling SAV. However, we don't love what BMW did to the exterior styling or to the interior, so we'd actually recommend saving some cash, and finding the superior third-generation model with more features. Mileage ranges from under 3,000 to over 80,000, depending on how much you want to spend, condition, and equipment. If you stick to the third-generation X3, most examples will be powered by either a 2.0-liter turbo-four or a 3.0-liter turbo inline-six. The former comes in the sDrive30i and xDrive30i models, producing 248 hp, while the latter is found in the M40i with 382 hp. You may need to spend a little more or accept a higher mileage car if you want the M40i, but the difference in performance is noticeable. It takes just 4.2 seconds to hit 60 mph in the M40i, compared to around 6.4 seconds in the xDrive30i. Lincoln Nautilus 2024 Lincoln Nautilus 3/4 front static heroThough the Lincoln Nautilus is technically a mid-size SUV and therefore competes in a larger size class than the CR-V, we couldn't pass up this tremendous used bargain. The $30,000 to $42,000 price range includes plenty of examples of the first-generation Nautilus, which was a perfectly adequate but frankly forgettable luxury SUV. We were surprised to find that the second-generation model, which was introduced for the 2024 model year, is also available at the price. Since the new Nautilus is such an improvement over the outgoing one, we are only going to focus on the 2024 models we found within this range, which had anywhere from 8,000 to 75,000 miles.Lincoln offers the Nautilus as a hybrid, but they are much harder to find at this price range. Most examples will have the 250-hp turbo-four, but if you can find the 285-hp turbo-four hybrid, we'd suggest getting it because it improves the fuel economy from 24 to 30 MPG combined while adding horsepower; it's a win-win. We love the Nautilus because it has arguably the most futuristic interior on this list with a 48-inch panoramic display that spans the dashboard. Tesla Model Y 2026 Tesla Model YAside from one version of the Genesis GV70, every car on this list has a gasoline engine. But what if you are ready to switch to an electric vehicle? The Tesla Model Y, the best-selling EV in America, is readily available at this price with mileage ranging from just over 1,000 to over 85,000 depending on the version and condition. These examples span from the launch 2020 model year all the way up to the like-new 2026 Juniper facelift model.Depending on your priorities, there are several versions to choose from. For buyers who simply want reasonable transportation, a Single Motor Rear-Wheel-Drive Model Y should be plenty quick with around 280 to 295 hp, depending on the year. Dual Motor Long Range versions bring the output up to around 384 hp, while the Performance model produces a whopping 456 hp. You can expect the Model Y to cover anywhere from 250 to 350 miles on a charge, depending on the configuration. Acura MDX 2022 Acura MDX Type S front 1/4If you want a crossover that's nicer than a CR-V but want to stay loyal to Honda, you might consider an Acura RDX. It's around the same size as a CR-V, but it's actually older in its current iteration (2018), has less cargo space, and produces more power but worse fuel economy. That's why if you are looking at a used Acura, we recommend a used MDX instead. We managed to find a healthy assortment of fourth-generation models (2022 model year and beyond) in this price range with as little as 3,000 miles on the odometer. The MDX is the largest vehicle on our list, with a spacious third row and seating for up to seven passengers. While many SUVs in this segment have switched to turbocharged four-cylinder engines, the MDX still uses Acura's sweet-sounding 3.5-liter V6 mated to a 10-speed automatic, producing a healthy 290 hp. We even found several examples of the sporty Type S model, which uses a smaller 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 with 355 hp. These tend to have higher mileage (around 30,000 to 100,000), but are quicker and look sportier than a standard MDX. Alfa Romeo Stelvio 2023 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Blue Front AngleWe typically like to put at least one silly option on lists like these, but in this case, we showed some restraint. That's because the Alfa Romeo Stelvio is a pretty reasonable choice if you get the standard four-cylinder model with 280 hp. Not only did we find plenty of used examples with low mileage for less than the price of a new CR-V, we actually spotted a handful of brand-new leftover 2024 and 2025 model year Stelvio inventory, marked down by thousands of dollars below MSRP. That means you can actually get one of the prettiest SUVs on the market with a fresh warranty for the same price as a Honda. If you are a bit more adventurous, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio is also available in this range with mileage spanning from as little as 22,000 to 80,000. This is basically an Italian supercar wrapped in an SUV body, packing a Ferrari-related 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 with 505 hp. When it was new, this was the quickest SUV around the Nürburgring, and it can now be yours for less than a new Honda.
