2027 Hyundai Tucson First Look: Bigger and BoxierHyundaiHyundai has released the first images of the all-new Tucson small SUV coming to the U.S. next year. The look is boxy, rugged, and bold, pulling in familiar details like the Boulder concept's flared fenders and the production Sonata's full-width front light bar, while elevating the entire design into something fresh and new.The Tucson competes in the largest segment in the U.S. by models and volume, where it slots roughly fifth in sales behind the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Nissan Rogue, and Chevrolet Equinox. The new look could be a catalyst for a move up the charts.HyundaiAlso helping will be the fact Hyundai claims the new model will offer "best-in-class spaciousness," although it doesn't say whether that's for passenger, cargo, or overall. In fact, almost no specs were released alongside the new images, except some baseline dimensions. There is no information about what will power the Tucson, but you can expect a hybrid to be offered.AdvertisementAdvertisementWe do know the new Tucson is 2.3 inches longer and 1.5 inches wider, and has a 1.1-inch longer wheelbase. Nearly all of the wheelbase stretch translates directly to second-row legroom; headroom is also increased in the back, and the rear doors open wider than before, all welcome changes to anyone that has ever loaded a rear-facing car seat. The new Tucson should have slightly more cargo space, as well.HyundaiInside, Hyundai's avant-garde approach to cabin design sees a mix of soft curves and horizontal lines. The steering wheel is a squircle, while the dashboard features backlit cutouts across nearly its entire width, where you presumably can stash small items like a phone or a wallet.A large central screen handles infotainment duty and appears to house the controls for the HVAC system; there are few physical buttons overall. Dual wireless chargers and two USB-C ports ensure front occupants' phones will be fully topped off, and there's a hidden compartment below the center console palm rest.HyundaiFor customers who want their Tucson to look even tougher, an XRT trim will be available with its own front and rear styling, side cladding with a forged carbon-fiber look, black window trim, and its own wheel design. It will also include all-weather floor mats and LED lamps in the liftgate that should help when camping or tailgating. What we don't know is if it will receive any mechanical changes that will increase its off-road cred, but these go-anywhere (or at least look like you can) trims are extremely popular across the SUV space. The fifth-generation Hyundai Tucson is expected to arrive next year as either a 2027 or potentially a 2028 model.HyundaiHyundaiAdvertisementAdvertisementPhoto credit: HyundaiPhoto credit: HyundaiPhoto credit: HyundaiPhoto credit: HyundaiAdvertisementAdvertisementPhoto credit: HyundaiPhoto credit: Hyundai
