Expect the final version to be called the Zero SFZero Motorcycles has registered the design for a new motorcycle we expect will be the production version of the Lompico Concept shown in November at EICMA. At the time, Zero said the Lompico represented "far more than a design exercise," but the design filings include enough changes to suggest Zero is moving ahead with it.The design was submitted to the European Union Intellectual Property Office on April 30, before getting duly registered on May 7. Kenyon Kluge, Zero's vice president of design and engineering, and Matthew Bentley, senior director of industrial design are credited as designers.Comparing the design images to photos of the concept, we see a few changes that suggest a production model. The obvious change is the addition of mirrors, a necessity for street-legal motorcycles, and a redesigned tire-hugging plateholder. The front fender has also been changed, losing the piece that covers the axle.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe handlebar, seat, and footpeg positions appear unchanged, keeping the riding position fairly upright with a slight knee bend. The battery pack gains some extra protection behind the front fender, and the trellis frame appears identical to the Lompico Concept. While the styling stays fairly true to the concept, there is a bit of refinement on the front end. The headlight juts out further from between the two "shoulder" position lights. Looking at the design next to an earlier clay model, we can see the headlight is a bit better integrated into the bodywork, forming a consistent line with the position lights. The TFT display also receives a new mount design angled to match the slant of the headlight. The design filing doesn't provide any technical details, but we know the Lompico Concept used an 8.8 kWh battery, and that Zero was targeting an output of about 40 hp from the electric motor. The Lompico Concept also debuted Zero's next-generation Cypher 4 operating system. If and when the bike goes into production, we do not expect it will keep the "Lompico" name. Last June, Zero filed a trademark application for "Zero SF" with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. A blink-and-you'll-miss-it shot from the concept's video showed a drawing of the Lompico's tail with the letters "SF" visible below the pillion seat. While there's nothing wrong with the word "Lompico," the SF would be a more logical fit to Zero's current naming format.AdvertisementAdvertisementSince the Lompico Concept debuted at last year's EICMA show, it would be reasonable to expect the production Zero SF model to take the stage at this year's show in Milan, Italy, this November. We will have more information here on Motorcycle.com as it becomes available.Zero SF / Lompico Concept Gallery View Gallery 21 photos Credit: Photos by Zero.Become a Motorcycle.com insider.
