From the start, the plan was for Audi to share the platform with its Volkswagen Group corporate cousin, Porsche-but things seem to have changed recently. Despite the media reporting Porsche having a perpetual situationship with electric sports cars, it appears that Audi is plugging away at the Concept C, with production expected to begin in 2027. Source: Audi Source: Audi Top 10 'Old' Cars of the 2026 Detroit Auto Show With news that Porsche is bleeding money and abandoning the all-electric Boxster-Cayman duo, it's slightly surprising to hear that Audi isn't changing its plans to move forward with the Concept C. According to AutoCar, Audi boss Gernot Döllner has said Audi will still be producing the Concept C. Döllner went on the record to say, "Porsche will stay on that platform. We will be able to bring that car to the market in 2027, and we are working intensively and very positively together with Porsche to make that car happen. [...] We already released the data [design] of the exterior and the interior, so everything is in a good way." Source: Audi Source: Audi The Concept C will supposedly live on an all-new platform called PPE Sport, which is a version of the existing basis on which cars like the R6 E-tron and Macan Electric live. In traditional VAG guise, this means there will inevitably be other vehicles on the PPE Sport chassis since they always work to amortize any new product development across their vast portfolio of brands. AutoGuide's Take: Truth be told, this is all good news; since the TT died, Audi's lineup has been devoid of an "affordable" sports car. Not that this new offering would replace the TT, but if nothing else, it would fill the void left by the now-defunct two-seater. And though we don't have any real faith that the Porsche iterations will make it to production, this is good news on the VAG and Audi fronts, possibly as it means a combustion engine version may live under the Porsche brand, keeping the sub-911 sports car alive. 2026 Genesis GV60: All the Details
