Jaguar Says the Future Starts With the New Type 01JaguarNo matter what you may think of Jaguar’s controversial all-electric four-door GT that was first teased as the Type 00 concept, at least now you'll know what to call the production car. The official name of the future of the reinvented Jaguar brand is: Type 01.The name may seem generic, especially for such a bold-looking automobile, but there's real meaning behind the moniker. The 'Type' designation first appeared on the Le Mans race‑winning C‑Type of 1951, and has been used many times since on iconic vehicles like the Jaguar E-Type and the recently-discontinued F-Type. The ‘0’ represents an electric powertrain and its accompanying zero emissions. And, of course, the ‘1’ designates this as the first car of this new era.The Type 00 Concept.JaguarSeveral Jaguar Type 01 prototypes will be on display at Formula E's 2026 Monaco E-Prix being held this weekend. However, Jaguar is still not ready to formally reveal the car; all prototypes in Monaco will be wearing a camouflage wrap.AdvertisementAdvertisementWhile the final design is still to be shown in the naked metal, we do know what will be under the skin. The Type 01 will be powered by three electric motors that are expected to deliver over 1000 horsepower and over 950 foot-pounds of torque. That should put this car in the same power ballpark as the Lucid Air Sapphire.JaguarThe full Jaguar Type 01 reveal is expected to take place later this year. Considering this represents Jaguar attempting to completely redefine itself for the electric age, the stakes couldn't be much higher; Jaguar is walking away from much of what defined the brand for decades in pursuit of a radically modern identity centered around electric vehicles, minimalist luxury, and a new design language. Will the Type 01 captivate the world like the beautiful E-Type once did? That remains to be seen. But if the Type 01 can capture even a fraction of that magic while pushing the brand into the future, Jaguar may have a fighting chance at reinventing itself. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
