Gasgoo Munich- Gasgoo reported on April 10 that the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) released new data showing China's auto exports continued their surprise surge in March. Both monthly volume and year-on-year growth remained elevated, while overall exports for the first quarter also posted strong gains. New energy vehicles have emerged as the primary driver of this expansion. In March, auto exports reached 875,000 units, up 30.2% from February and 72.7% from a year ago. New energy vehicle exports jumped to 371,000 units, surging 130% year-on-year. For the first quarter, cumulative exports hit 2.226 million units — a 56.7% annual increase. NEVs accounted for a significant slice of that total, with 954,000 units shipped abroad, representing a 120% year-on-year jump.Image source: BYDChen Shihua, deputy secretary-general of the CAAM, attributed the rapid export growth to a convergence of factors. On one hand, the competitiveness of new energy vehicles continues to improve, with robust global demand making them the core engine driving export expansion. On the other hand, China boasts a complete and highly efficient automotive supply chain. This ensures stable production and overseas delivery capabilities, which, combined with industrial scale effects, further strengthens the comprehensive competitiveness of Chinese vehicles in international markets.Taken as a whole, the first quarter's export performance sustained the industry's previous positive momentum. The high growth rates reflect not only rising overseas recognition of Chinese automotive products but also the ongoing success of the industry's transformation and upgrading. As global market layouts deepen, auto exports are poised to maintain steady growth, serving as a crucial pillar supporting the development of China's automotive sector.
