The Golden Shield solid-state battery achieves an energy density of 400Wh/kg, providing a range of over 1,500 kilometers on a full charge while improving safety by 70%. Changan Automobile announced on its investor interaction platform today that the company’s solid-state battery project is progressing steadily. The “Golden Shield ” solid-state battery is expected to undergo validation on robots and vehicle integration before the third quarter of this year. Changan Reveals Solid-State Battery R&D Milestones on Interactive Platform Changan officially launched its self-developed battery brand “Golden Shield Battery” at the 2023 Guangzhou Auto Show, aiming to address core pain points in energy density, charging/discharging efficiency, cycle life, and low-temperature performance. According to official specifications, the Golden Shield all-solid-state battery achieves an energy density of 400Wh/kg, enabling a driving range exceeding 1,500 kilometers on a full charge—significantly alleviating range anxiety for users. In terms of safety, the battery leverages remote diagnostic technology to address safety hazards associated with liquid electrolyte batteries, improving safety performance by 70%. Notably, Changan emphasized that the solid-state battery will be “validated on robots”—a move closely tied to its strategic layout in the robotics sector. The company stated that its robotics business will focus on core scenarios, adopting a “1+N+X” strategy to deploy intelligent automotive robot technologies and operations. Here, “1” refers to humanoid robots as the mainline, driving overall sector development. Product forms include full-size (for manufacturing scenarios), medium-size (for retail/store scenarios), and small-size (for home scenarios), enabling multi-scenario coverage. “N” encompasses business forms including in-vehicle component robots, intelligent mobility ecosystem robots, and special service robots. “X” aims to leverage Changan’s role as an industry chain leader to integrate upstream and downstream robotics sectors, covering components, software services, infrastructure construction, and operators. Validating solid-state batteries on robots first not only tests battery performance under complex motion scenarios but also provides energy solution support for the commercial deployment of humanoid robots. According to Changan’s roadmap, the Golden Shield Battery all-solid-state battery will complete robot and vehicle validation before Q3 2026, with gradual mass production targeted for 2027.
