Popular DemandCertain features and creature comforts become so beloved by car owners that manufacturers often include them as standard or paid options across the whole lineup. That's the case for the Chevrolet Multi-Flex Tailgate option that gave owners multiple layouts and uses for the truck's tailgate depending on what they needed to load in the bed.Sadly, for the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado, the Multi-Flex Tailgate is set to be more limited across the lineup.2021 Chevrolet Silverado Multi-Flex TailgateReduced AvailabilityGM Authority released a report that specifies changes to the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado options and equipment offerings. Specifically, the report said that for this coming model year, GM will limit the Multi-Flex Tailgate to a select few variants. During the 2026 model year, Multi-Flex was available across the Silverado 1500 range for regular cab or crew cab body styles, except the double-cab. At the time, it was a $445 option, but it was standard for the ZR2 model. For the 2027 model run, Chevrolet is limiting Multi-Flex Tailgate availability to just 3 variants: Trailboss, High Country, and ZR2. Beyond the new limited availability, the option price has also risen to $595, an increase of $150. However, the ZR2 Silverado will still get it as standard equipment. What made the Multi-Flex Tailgate a hit was that it offered owners six different cargo-bed operating layouts, making it easier to load and access cargo. It also allowed owners to load and secure multiple types of cargo properly.2021 Chevrolet Silverado Multi-Flex TailgateStreamliningGM doesn't list any reason for reducing the feature's availability, but we can assume it was done to streamline the options and features list in anticipation of the next-generation Silverado. Basically, those who still want a Multi-Flex tailgate will have to cough up the additional dough for the Trailboss, High Country, or ZR2, but even then, the increased price of the feature itself might put people off altogether. The new Silverado is expected to bring in new engine options, a revised design, and additional features to keep Chevrolet's flagship truck competitive.Chevrolet
