CTV NewsA Canadian man who shelled out roughly $59,000 for a brand-new 2026 Chevrolet Silverado was shocked when the truck needed a new engine after just a little over 1,200 miles.William Grice of Cobourg, Ontario, purchased the diesel pickup truck for C$83,000 in July, and he planned to eventually use it to tow a travel trailer across Canada. However, less than three weeks later, the new truck was already having issues, according to a report from CTV News."The engine started making a lot of noise, and when I shut the truck off and turned it back on, it started up funny and then none of the dash would work," Grice told the outlet.CTV NewsHe brought the Silverado back to the dealership, and that's when he learned that the vehicle had a defective crankshaft and would require a complete engine replacement."I was in shock," Grice continued. "I really didn't know what to say."Rather than have his new truck taken apart for the repair, Grice contacted General Motors and requested a replacement vehicle."At that point, I reached out to GM customer care and asked for a replacement truck, which they told me they didn't do," he said.CTV NewsGrice's options were limited because Ontario doesn't have a general lemon law requiring an automaker to replace or refund a defective new vehicle.
