The Everyman's SupercarChevrolet's Corvette is the longest-running and last-man-standing true American Supercar; born in the 50s, it has always tried to take the fight to the European marques. Throughout history, the Corvette has stood as the blue-collar, no-nonsense supercar that tried to match the likes of Porsche and Ferrari without the extremely high prices and snooty exclusivity. The current generation is considered one of the best ever, being able to go toe-to-toe with the very best, but still at a fraction of the cost. However, if you play around with the in-house Chevrolet configurator, prices can quickly skyrocket, as shown in our experiment with the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport X.ChevroletOptions GaloreAs with any configurator experiment, we first need to talk about how intuitive the user experience is. In this regard, we have to credit Chevrolet's configurator for being generally smooth and organized. Now, onto the car itself: the Corvette Grand Sport X comes in 2 body styles: coupe or convertible. As a coupe, prices will start at $112,495, and $119,495 for the convertible, which aren't starting prices. The first real jump comes when you select a specific variant; choosing the highest 3LT will bring your build to $130,145. The Grand Sport X has two lower variants: the 1LT ($119,495) and 2LT ($124,995).As for exterior colors, there are a few free options, but if you want to stand out more, you can opt for paid options ranging from $500 to $995. If you want carbon-finished nacelles, they cost $1,295. Surprisingly, you can choose from many rim styles; prices start at $995 and go up to a whopping $15,500. Other exterior upgrades include painted brake calipers for $795, special center caps ($250), and full-length body stripes at $1,295.There are also many special interior material and color options; the more exclusive choices cost over $1,000, plus $595 for the competition bucket seats and colored seatbelts. The final options page collates all the smaller (but still pricey) options. A roadside safety package costs $195, and the performance pack with stickier tires will set you back $500. If you're so inclined to brag about your engine, you can get the Convertible Engine Appearance Package for $1,295, or a special Grand Sport Launch Edition package with a Santorini Blue dipped interior for $1,995.Other costly options are the pair of intake grille screens for $795 and a carbon flash metallic rear wing for $2,095. One interesting paid option is that if you want to take delivery of your car in the Corvette museum, you have to pay an extra $1,695.Chevrolet$186,000 CorvetteAll in all, accounting for the multitude of options that we basically ticked off, our build went up from $130,000 to $186,138, which is a massive jump of $55,993 just in terms of features and options. Of note, the top-dog Corvette, the ZR1X, is priced at over $207,000.Surprisingly, at that price, the Corvette is still a few thousand dollars cheaper than its direct European counterparts, which also have their own equally expensive option lists.Chevrolet
